4 hours to get out of Gib *oh dear*

.

The latest news. My b-in-law had a two-hour wait on Wednesday. And the news is that it can be up to four hours at present . . .

It depends "how" you cross the border as to whether you'll be delayed and by how much. Plenty of info on the boards about this. How was he crossing?

Using a vehicle to enter Gibraltar means that on exiting you may be involved in some extra zealous inspections carried out by Spanish police. The number of travellers are always going to be higher than usual during the peak holiday period. For the average tourist going in to see the sights and not intending to load up with supplies from Morrisons supermarket or wanting to use a vehicle it is always recommended to just walk over the frontier. There are car parks on the La Linea side of the border. Or if coming by bus the main bus terminal is within 10 minutes walk. Many people cross the border this way each day for work as well as tourists.

Gibraltar is a small place and having a car is quite unnecessary. You can walk over the runway (except when a plane is taking off or landing !) into Gibraltar easily or take one of the buses or a taxi.

There is a Frontier web cam showing the vehicle movements as well as people walking to the frontier.

www.frontierqueue.gi/frontiercamera.aspx

Local Gibraltar police do alert users of their Twitter feed of any incidents etc. This can be seen on the web cam site.

I just read Turista-Inglesa original post which seems to be inferring that there is a 4 hour delay AT PRESENT !

This can only be referring to the vehicle queue but is in fact totally misleading and could have the affect of scaring tourist away from visiting ! The queue was very bad on Wednesday but today there is none as I write.

The Brother in law did choose a bad day to cross over with car.

There was a point in the local English press last week that the import of tobacco into Gibraltar means that every man, woman and child must smoke 200 cigarettes a day or.......

Funny how Spain hasn't seen fit to do the same at the frontier with Andorra, where they get through 300 Bensons a day each alone, before we get on to other brands.

No wait at all at the moment, even for vehicles, looking at the frontier-cam.

4pm to 6pm has always been a time to avoid, even before Spain started the latest shenanigans.
