You should have fun staying at the Pez. It was the Costa del Sol's first luxury hotel when it opened 51 years ago and has just completed a massive refurb that has been sympathetically done. Everyone who was anyone stayed there in the 60s, and you can see their pictures on the walls.

La Carihuela village is five minutes walk along the Paseo Maritímo to the left, and Benalmádena Marina is ten minutes walk along to the right - plenty of threads on here about eating and drinking in Carihuela if you use the search facility.

Easy cheap days out include Mijas, Málaga City (not to be missed) and Marbella - all available by bus from the stop just up Calle Pez Espada (!) on the main road (Avda. Carlotta Alessandri).

Although you'll probably spend most of your time wandering around Carihuela village or up into Torrie Town!

Hi. We stayed at the Pez two summers ago and are back there again this August.

I don't know how far you want to travel on your days out or what you're looking for but we hired a car and went to Ronda which is about 70 miles away. It's an old town with a bull ring and the tourist office will give you a guide that has a few walks you can take. Most of the ticket offices near the Pez will sell you a coach tour there if you don't want to go by car. Google Ronda Spain if you're interested.

We also went to a wolf park (lobo park) which is about 50 miles away (although tripadvisor says it's only 2km away from the Pez, it's not). For about £25 each in the evening you get a BBQ and then a night time tour till about midnight seeing the wolves. If it's your sort of thing it's an excellent night out. If you're interested their web site is http://www.lobopark.com
