Local travel agencies selling day trips to Gibraltar

Can anyone on the forum recommend any local travel agencies that can provide a day trip from Torremolinos to Gibraltar.

My wife and I are coming from the USA and will be in Torremolinos for 4 days in early June after arriving from Madrid. We are staying at the Sol Don Pablo hotel so I am also curious to see if any of the recommended local travel agencies are within walking distance from the Sol Don Pablo.

Thanks for all of your help!

The hotel will probably have details of local companies and a lot of information about other places to visit but for Gibraltar you should look at www.costafrica.com who specialise in day trips and have a good reputation (do a search on the forum and you will see lots of recommendations).

You should also try a day in Malaga city - its truly beautiful and a great way to spend a day.

In the hotel we offer excursions by VDT and we get pretty good feed-back from our guests. They currently offer four different options:

Gibraltar Visit - 37€

Gibraltar Shopping - 15€ (they just drop you off and pick you up)

Historic Tunnels - 44€

Dolphins - 39€

In addition they offer an express service for a 2.50€ supplement which avoids stopping off at all the other hotels to collect people.

I would love to hear if you get better offers.

Thank you Jaime.

We are staying at the Sol Don Pablo hotel. Does VDT have an office there as well? In addition, we are flying into Malaga and will likely be taking the train to Torremolinos. How can we get from the Torremolinos train station to the Don Pablo?

Thank you!

VDT offer their tours through the hotel Reception so it is very easy.

The Torremolinos train station is about a 10 minute walk. I would be inclined to look it up on google maps before coming as it is quite simple but somehow complicated to explain! Otherwise a taxi will cost you about 7 euros.

Another option is to take the Shuttle Bus service (7€ per person chargeable to your hotel bill) from the airport. It is a bus that drops off at other hotels. If you would like to do that e-mail me with flight details at jaime.floyer@solmelia.com.

jaime.

Just realised that you are coming from the train station - SORRY! No Shuttle Bus from there. You are still welcome to e-mail me though and I can try and give you better directions from the Torremolinos town centre.

Hi!

Torremolinos station is underground and exits into a large pedestrianised plaza. I have encountered non-operational escalators from the booking hall and it's a stiff climb with suitcases.

I would take jamie's offer of the hotel shuttle bus - direct from the airport to your hotel for 7 Euros - what a bargain!

If the Argentinean Gauchos still perform in the evening at the Sol Don Pedro next door it's a show not to be missed.

The gauchos are on every Sunday at the moment. They are playing in the Don Pablo.

These days we are offering one big show every evening on the Don Pablo terrace and live music for dancing or just having a drink in the Don Pedro. That way there are two different options available to all the guests of the complex every evening.

We just had a Gibraltar tour from Benalmadena by VDT (9/9/2011) and I have to say that I can´t give good feed back. The guide-lady was rude and arrogant and there was no time to have lunch during the whole day. The bus picked us up at 8.45 AM and we were back at hotel around 7PM. At the beginning we had barely 1 hour for shopping and back then the guide did not tell us that it would be our last chance to have lunch, she only told where to go shopping. After visiting Gibraltar we had less than 30 minutes to get back to the bus. During the tour in local mini bus the local driver was very nice.

Dear HannaFin,

I am very sorry to hear the negative feedback. I shall certainly make VDT aware of it. I am glad at least that the guide on Gib was good.

Best regards,

Jaime.
