Torremolinos first-timer

A couple of years back, we looked at trying Torremolinos for an Autumn break. We looked at some Hotels and came across Hotel Don Pedro, we liked what we read about it, position to beach. airport etc and i think it was part of a chain of 3, the others being Don Pablo and Don Marco (we think). We didn't go in the end, funds etc but we've kept them in mind.

We have decided to get away in a couple of weeks time on a late availability deal and we hope we can get one at any of the three Hotels. Can anyone tell us if the Hotels are still part of the chain and as we like All-Inclusive, can you use your A.I. in all 3 of the Hotels also can anyone advise what would be best to pick etc? We'll be travelling as a couple (41 & 42).

We'd also like to know more about the area, bars, beaches, nighlife, even trips etc, any info will go a long way to making the decision to choose here,

Thanks in anticipation, Jambonian,Edinburgh

The 3 Don Hotels are the Pedro, Pablo and Marco - they share the same grounds and facilities and are all good. See www.solmelia.com for further information. The Pedro has recently been upgraded to a 4 star, as is the Pablo; the Marco is 4 star superior. However, as the Pedro and Marco share the same restaurant - and the corridors are linked - the Pedro is the better buy in our opinion. You can use the facilities of all 3 hotels - e.g. 2 x nightime entertainment venues and indoor pool.

However, none of the Don Hotels do All Inclusive.

Location wise the hotels are excellent being right opposite Bajondillo Beach. It is a short walk - but long climb up many steps (or cheat and use the lift) - up to the town centre. Torremolinos centre is excellent for shopping with many bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets.

Trips can be booked from the Hotels but are cheaper at the various travel agents in town. Places to visit by public transport include Malaga - not to be missed - and Ronda as well as further along the coast to Benalmadena and Fuengirola.

Hope this helps a bit.

Though hidden away, Torremolinos has a subway system (the entrance is just along from McDonalds and several yards back from the main pavement) which is a quick ride into Malaga or Fuengirola every 30 minutes.

The train station is underground in Torremolinos, entrance just past Burger King. The trains now run every 20 mins in both directions. So you can easily visit Benalmadena, Fuengirola or Malaga.

you will find if you want to book the Sol hotels it is more expensive if you book via their website. This year I booked direct with the hotel, then found out closer to our holiday that Hotels4u and Alpha rooms were offering cheaper rates. In the end I cancelled the booking with the hotel and booked with Alpha rooms.

If you do book the son don pedro, I would suggest that you email the hotel nearer the time and request a room that is not overlooking the road at the back.

Cheaper still is the phone the hotel and ask what the best price is they can offer - telling themn what Alpha Rooms etc. are quoting. You often get a room upgrade this way too.
