Alhambra: Visiting in January.

Hello. I'd like to know if it is essential to buy tickets in advance during the winter season? We're able to visit the site during mid week. We'd be coming up from the coast for a few days. Thought it would be nice to wait and pick our days to visit the Alhambra according to the weather.

Also, do they offer self-guided tours via head phones of some sort like other historical sites?

Thanks in advance.

After the National Holiday on 7th January you can generally get into the Alhambra on the day - although this is not guaranteed - as long as you don´t mind the fact that you may have to accept a late entry slot for the Nasrid Palaces so have to hang around for quite a while.

e.g. Buy you may buy your tickets at 9 a.m. but only be able to get an Afternoon Ticket with a Nasrid Palace entry slot at 6 p.m.

However, you may be lucky and get entry straight away.

May be a safer option to keep an eye on the weather forecast so you can see if the following day is going to be nice and then book your ticket 24 hours in advance so you can plan your day round your Alhambra entry time www.alhambra-tickets.es.

There are excellent Audio Guides available for rent at the Alhambra allowing you to tour at your own pace. Cost this Summer was 4 Euros - hire near the ticket office.

Jubjub:

The Alhambra is Spain's most popular monument, getting 3 million visitors a year. You may be taking a chance if you do not buy ahead of time because a large group could get all the tickets.

I have heard that some people were not happy with the audio guide. Presenter has a very strong accent, can't be well understood etc etc. Also that they cost 10euros each?

From what you say I gather that you would disagree strongly? We would really prefer to go the audio guide route as opposed to the quite expensive guided tours, but I also do not want to skimp and not enjoy the experience.

Thanks!
