Patrick O'Connell , Manager of Real Betis & Sevilla F C

Mr. O'Connell who managed Real Betis to their only La Liga title some 80 years ago has had a statue erected to his memory in Seville.

As a fellow Irishman I would like to visit that statue & pay my respects to a great football man during a coming visit to Seville but I am having difficulty in pinpointing the location.

I wonder can any Seville resident help me ?

I found this in one report - "There is a statue of him in Seville – but not at Betis's Benito Villamarin stadium. It's effectively in the middle of nowhere."

In another it reads - ".... Real Betis thumped Racing Santander 5-0 to clinch the Primera Liga title ...... A statue to O’Connell exists outside the club’s ground to this day and the Betis’ fans gave him the affectionate nickname ‘Don Patricio’."

Good luck!!

that is what the statue looks like or looked like.

from abit of research (asking my sister who lives in Seville) and zooming around on google earth, we believe it used to be in the viapol area of Seville. unfortunately by the looks of things it is no longer there. my sister spends alot of time in that area as she works near by and says she hasnt seen it. they may have moved it or it may be gone forever. as suggested above the best people to ask would be the real betis fans

the statue is in the newly created (Feb 2014) Parque Rectora Rosario Valpuesta. It is between the streets Calle Presidente Cardenas and Calle Pirotecnia, behind the University of Seville campus for journalism and economics (known as Campus Pirotecnia).
