Question about bus schedule to Italica

We are in Seville thru this Sunday, and would like to take a bus to Italica. We were thinking a Sunday visit would be good, as other things here in Seville might be closed.

I've looked at the "Top Questions" about visiting Italica, but I'm not sure I'm understanding the bus schedule--even with using Google Translate. I understand the busses are less frequent on a Sunday, but I don't understand what the different color blocks mean.

Are there other things to enjoy near the ruins? Any suggestions for lunch nearby?

Also--is it obvious where to get off to see the ruins, and more importantly is it obvious where to catch a bus back to Seville?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I can help with the timetable.

The yellow and green colour blocks indicate trips that do not go all the way to Italica or don't start from there going back to Seville, so only those in white are those you will need. That does mean there are gaps in the otherwise hourly service.

Sorry I cannot help with Italica itself.

in front of the ruins main entrance gate you have the restaurant El Ventorillo Canario, quite good and famous for meats. A bit behind el Ventorrillo and closer to the football stadium you can find La Caseta de Antonio, which especialises in Sevillian rice dishes. I was there last Saturday and had one of the best Arroz Caldoso Marinero that I can remember

The bus trip on M 170 A or M 170 B both go to Italica. This is in Santiponce village area.

The one shaded green goes on further to a place called Las Pajanosas which is about 15 minutes further north.

Unfortunately there are no Express buses on a Sunday so will be a stopper.

I want to try and find the Roman theatre in Santiponce which until the late 70s was hidden under the town of Santponce but has been unearthed and not sure if it is easily accessible or open to visits.

More here in Spanish

The Roman amphitheater within the Italica grounds is impressive but a certain amount of imagination is needed to understand how it was built. This helps:

I was told that much of the original mosaics at Italica was spirited away over the years and some are on display in Seville at the house of Palace of the Countess of Lebrija in Seville.

Just to let you know it took us about 45 mins to get there - the bus stopped at every bus stop as it was a public bus - i thought the journey was awful and to top it off it was closed when we got there lol - it was a Monday. We then had to wait ages in the baking sun for a bus to go back. There were no taxis, shops or people around.

I would go back but next time it would be by taxi albeit more expensive.

In retrospect, it was probably best that it was closed as it was unbelievably hot (September) and i had forgot my hat and did not take a drink, we expected to buy something once we were there. Am sure i got sun stoke!

Tip, take a hat and plenty of water.

Good report but sad about the ruined day.

Moral is to read the notes about getting to Italica on Trip Advisor !

tripadvisor.com/Travel-g187443-c115651/Sevil…

and try to use one of the Express buses (as mentioned hatched in blue) - sure that is cheaper than a taxi.

Just another mistake not to make ...

When the bus reaches the outskirts of Santiponce, it turns left at a mini roundabout and then reaches what appears to be a terminus, waits up to 10 minutes, and then heads back in the direction it came from.

Don't get off assuming that's the end of the ride (as I did!). It does then go straight across the roundabout and up to Italica, and it's obvious when you have arrived there. It's a long walk in the heat if you get off too soon!
