Spanish Basque Region

Can any recommend a good tour company for day tours in this region. Planning on staying in San Sebastian or Bilboa, September 2013 for about a week. The budget is midrange.

You don't really need a tour. These are places that are easy to do on your own. San Sebastián is really small. Bilbao is doable as well; however, it is larger so depends on your interests.

Thanks for your reply.

Would you suggest a rental car to explore this region from San Sebastian.

We used the trains and busses - easy and inexpensive. San Sebastián is walkable. You can see all the main sights in a day or less. Then you can take the bus to Getaria, Hondarribia and much more!

Terry:

The problem with a rental car is that there is no free parking. Hotels charge 11 euros a night for parking minimum. Commercial garages charge 25 euros.

How many of you are there and as Cathy has asked, how long are you here for? What sort of things do you wish to see? There is a regular contributor on these forums who might be able to help you out: http://www.aitordelgado.net

My husband and I are still thinking about how long to stay in this region. We have up to 3 weeks for the whole trip. Plan to start in Paris for about 3/4 nights then train to Basque Region then on to Barcelona (which I have seen before but want to visit again).

You can easily spend 3 to 4 nights in San Sebastian without wanting to go anywhere. If you have more time trains and buses will get you easily to Hondarriba, St. Jean, Getaria, Lekeitio, Bilbao. After you've done all that if you still have extra time rent a car.
