Ibiza Wedding - Advice please!!

Hello,

I am planning to get married in Ibiza in May 2011. So far I have spent hours on the internet and seem no further so would like any advice from anyone planning a wedding there or have had a wedding there. We are planning 45 guests and our current idea is to rent a big luxury villa with spectacular views and have the ceremony and reception there. We are going to get legally married in the UK first and we are planning on a very close friend to be the presiding minister over the ceremony as we thought it isn't legal so anyone can do it?? So far we have found some nice villa's but I have looked at outside catering and I have been getting quotes back around £4000, this seems expensive any suggestions on catering, villa's, florists and bands???

Thank you in advance

Alice

Hi,

I'm getting married in Ibiza this May, and having the reception in a villa. We're doing our catering through Eat Ibiza, who will also do the planning at no extra cost if you wanted also. We're having a bbq, and £4000 is probably about right for 50 guests. I think you'll find its the more expensive route in a villa rather than a restaurant. I would say the best thing to do is do loads of research online, and then visit the island and meet up with people while your over there.

Give us an email if you want any other info, and i'll try to help!

hi alice,

a villa wedding in ibiza is generally more expensive because you have to pay for the location and the catering separately. it can be a cost effective option if you make good use of the villa as accommodation for wedding guests though. there's no reason why a friend can't conduct your ceremony for you and my first wedding in ibiza was like that. they also gave rings to the brides children which i thought was a really nice touch - lovely couple and a lovely wedding!!

you need to be very careful with the villa and the villa owners though because of the noise restrictions here in ibiza - many of them will tell you there's no problem at all until after they have got your money. just ask plenty of questions and drop me a line if you're unsure of anyone.

there are cheaper options on gourmet catering if you look outside of the wedding specialists if that's of any interest? probably best if you send me some more details and i'll just put you in touch with someone suitable.

i work on loads of weddings in ibiza (sound systems and DJs/musicians mostly) so i'm happy to point you in the right direction for the other stuff. are you planning a visit to ibiza in the near future?

best of luck.

Yes thats the big problem with Villa Rentals for weddings. All outdoor noise has to be finished at midnight. Music can continue indoors at a reduced level after midnight. It all depends on the individual Villa owner and his/her relationship with the local police, as to how much you can push it. Villas on the Police naughty list will have the boys in green outside the gates at midnight to ensure all is quiet!!

The established business interests on the Island dont like the private Villa industry as it takes away business from their restaurants, bars and hotels that pay higher rates and create more jobs. They are always lobbying the police to strictly enforce Villa restrictions especially ones owned by non-nationals. Combine that with the current green, environmental shade of government that dislikes noise pollution, and you start having problems.

There is much more leeway afforded to established restaurants and bars with regard to noise and loud music.

it really is all about neighbours these days.

several restaurants and bars have decent relationships with their neighbours but if someone wants to cause a problem then they can have the police shut you down very quickly.

whether it's a villa, bar or restaurant you need to establish that they are being honest with you. 'everything is fine' or 'don't worry' doesn't cut the mustard - make sure you are not being fobbed off and get unbiased people to back it up as much as possible; ideally satisfied couples that have married there.....

Thanks for the advice guys. Another option we had was getting married at Amante? Anyone used this location or know of any good places people have got married?

Thanks guys. To be honest we are not to bothered about the ceremony going on past midnight so I don't think that will be an issue. We have decided to go out to ibiza in April to check out some locations. Vicky from eat has been in touch and has been very helpful! Anybody used her services before?

Hi Vicky

i got married in ibiza last year and we held our wedding at Amante, we were their first when it came under new ownership. It was a really great experience and we held both the ceremony and reception there and worked perfectly for about 75 people. the best thing is you can dance on the sand and enjoy a fresh bbq and all by the sea.

You can see more about the venue at:

we were also based in santa eualia for our trip along with all our guests and we had a great time. not the usual place i stay when in ibiza but this was perfect for a mixture of ages in attendance. More info:

Good luck we had an amazing time, and best move we made.
