Majorca, north part of the island as a change from Palma?

We are going to be on Mallorca for four nights in June for the first time and I've heard Palma is a bit overdeveloped, etc., but I still want to stay there for two nights, I think at the HM Jaime III, but thought maybe staying in another part of the island the other two nights might be good. Is the north of the island a nice change? And where to stay. We are two guys who like sort of design-ish sort of boutique hotels if possible but aren't too posh to stay wherever is good, that's for sure. Just don't know much at all about the isalnd yet.

Thanks.

Hi you two guys. Not many boutique style hotels in the north of the island which as you suggest is very different to the bustle of Palma.I would suggest Hotel Cala San Vicenc in Cala San Vicente. But it is very quiet in the resort. No gay scene there as there is in Palma.Very scenic hamlet but not a lot going on.

Palma overdeveloped? Maybe you are confused with Palma Nova? Palma is a very old city, not a beach-type resort. Why not try Hotel Formentor, north of Alcudia, for a complete contrast.

As Whitehorse peter has said Palma is a City not a resort but having said that I think it is more worthy of a 2 day stay than any of the resorts.

if you want to stay somwhere in the North that is small and stylish have a look at this one in Old Town Alcudia http://www.nouhotelet.com/

We stayed ther a couple of years ago and loved it, or this one where we stayed last year which was also very nice http://www.hotelcanpere.com/

(see my reviews) for more options have a look at these web sites
