Active retired couple needs ideas of where to stay and what to do for 1 week in January. Hotel? Condo? Will things be closed? Rental Car? I think it is not high season

Palma is the only place at that time of year and possibly Soller, you do realise its middle of winter then dont you? pretty much all the holiday resorts will be totally dead andneverything closed other than Palma itself.

The weather can be nice, sunny, low teens centigrade but it can also be bloody chilly, windy, wet and downright horrible. Car hire definitely to get out and see the island. I cant help thinking though that spring, April/May is a much better time to visit, that bit warmer and all the spirng blossom every is beautiful.

Only Palma the capital is worth visiting for a week in January.Being the capital and an international city it never closes. It would be worth hiring a car to see some of the places which are attractive/interesting/historical whatever the weather eg Valldemossa,Sa Calobra,Soller,Arta,Lluc Monastery. There will be very few tourists about in January and do not expect good weather though you could get some.
