Just back on Tuesday from S' 'illot and it was 1.17 in resort, you got better rates back here.

The resorts will always be more dear - especially the "commission free" shops which are usually the most expensive.

But when you add it up, if you're exchanging 100 quid, the difference between 1.17 and 1.20 is about 3 Euros, so you have to consider whether searching for the "best deal" is worth the effort.

If you're exchanging 1000's, then it's always better to get a prepaid debit card from one of those specialists, because you can save 50, 100 pounds or more on the exchange rate.

Ironically, conducting trade the other direction (Euros to Pounds) is much more reasonable. When in the UK, I just use my Spanish debit card, and I get nearly the interbank rate of exchange.
