Advice on our trip from Palma to Caves of Drach

Hello!

We are a group of 11 people and would be in Mallorca for a day on Jan 22, 2012.

We will arrive at Palma and Caves of Drach tops the list of places we would like to visit.

We would like to make the trip very economical.....and also visit the country side Porto cristo or similar places famous for its unique culture and natural beauty.

If we dont go for a tour guide, could you suggest as to how and where can we get the local transport to the destination(s).

And if possible suggest the places we could visit as the departure flight is only at at 10:22pm.

Awaiting for your quick reply !!!

Most economical is to catch the train to Manacor at Placa d'Espanya (Palma city) and then catch the bus from Manacor to Caves of Drach, which will be waiting for you when you arrive in Manacor.

The entire trip will be about 2 hours each way (comfortable, with some nice scenery in between), and total cost about €5 per person each way. It's actually a rather enlightening and fun trip, since you'll see a Mallorca you may have never known existed.

Local transport to all destinations is readily available in Manacor or Porto Cristo.. it's easy, obvious, and cheap. The train leaves either direction once per hour.

One other alternative is to hire private transport. For that many people, it may be more expensive, but only about 1 hour each way.

To add to that: Destinations:

Porto Cristo is worth visiting, but only for a while. It's quaint, but once you've seen it, you'll find yourself asking "what else?".

One recommendation is to hop the bus from Porto Cristo to the big beach at Cala Millor for some beach time, shopping, and maybe a few libations (only 10-15 min ride).

You can always hop the bus back to Manacor at any time, and visit Mallorca's 2nd largest city, which is simply, nothing like the 1st (Palma).

Manacor is very Mallorquin and not at all touristy, and offers some interesting history and restaurants (try the area around the cathedral). It's also Rafael Nadal's home, and you could even bump into him there.

Have fun in your whilwind trip!

From what I can tell, for 11, private transport is about 165 euros. But yes, you get a bit faster delivery.

Bus schedules on Sunday are more limited. Here they are for the eastern region:

It's about 12.50 euros. You can check their website and definitely no swimming.

And no photos. Tbh I could think of better things to do than go to the caves of drach. They are very boring and you get herded about. You can't walk round on your own. The main thing is this light/boat show to music. They cram about 400 in a cavern to watch it, then you leave.

Totally agree with the above. Spend an hour being herded around in the dark like cattle and you cant even take any pics... no thanks.
