Last minute break - Palma - beaches/quiet nights: possible?

Going very shortly to Mallorca - flying to Palma. Staying four nights and would like to self cater. Family, including older teenagers, wouldn't mind some peace (exams looming ..). Will not be hiring a car so looking, preferably for beaches, not too far from the airport and, if possible, gettable to by public transport.

We don't know the area at all. Any thoughts about a fairly quiet-ish area (for April)? At least peaceful at night! We'd quite to be near Palma for its culture and history but would like most days by or near the sea. Budget - modest! This is a last minute opportunity for a brief break and I'm looking feverishly for accommodation in a reasonable area.

Many thanks

Nowhere in Majorca is particulary busy in April..with a modest budget i would suggest Palma Nova..that's about 40 minutes from Palma using the excellent bus service..there are closer beach resorts like Can Pastilla, however its a bit TOO quiet in April..Palma Nova has a good beach and plenty of hotel and self catering accommodation..its not for all in high summer but very pleasant in Spring.

No question. C'an Pastilla.Direct regular bus services to Palma and the airport close-by. Your euros go a long way here for accommodation, food and drink.Lots of decent 3* hotels to choose from at decent prices.Just don't plan on spending much time on the beach in April-though you could be lucky.

Many thanks wirral and kj for your speedy replies. Have made a number of enquiries with self catering places in Can Pastilla as a result of your advice. Will look at hotels if these don't come to anything. The proximity to the airport and to the city looks good.

In case anyone else is having a last minute holiday in this area, I'll come back with any results!

Thanks again.
