Best beaches in Mallorca!? And best area to stay.

Hi! I will be in Mallorca with a friend from June 2nd-5th (3 day trip). We are just looking for a relaxing few days on gorgeous beaches. Which beaches are best in Mallorca? (clear water, white sand, not crowded). Also, where is the best place on the island to stay? Is a car rental suggested to get around? Thanks ahead of time for any responses--Much appreciated!

Early June even the best beaches won't be crowded. I have 2 favourite beaches Cala Mondrago and Playa de Muro. They must be among the best Majorca has to offer. If you want Playa de Muro there are some excellent Iberostar hotels on the beach. For Cala Mondrago you need to stay in Cala d'Or which does not have the resort hotels (that attract Americans) the quality of those in Playa de Muro. A car would be ideal as both the resorts I mention are nearly 40 miles from Palma Airport.

So you think it's best to stay on the Eastern side of Mallorca instead of Palma (closer to airport)? We weren't planning on renting a car, but we may consider now if the best beaches are on the other side!

Hi,

You may like the look of the Blau hotel at Porto Petro,

Close enough to walk into the small fishing village and harbour and just 5 mins away from Cala D,or.

A 15 min walk to Cala Mondrago through the National park or a very short taxi ride.

You are also not too far from Cala Llombards which is also a fantastic beach/cove area along with one of the nicest fishing villages on the island Cala Figuera.

Colonia St Jordi and Es Trenc are also a short drive away.

There are many good beaches in Majorca . Nothing wrong with Palma Nova and Santa Ponsa in the south . May be a bit more commercialised than ones mentioned but perfectly ok . Just depends what sort of resort you are happy with . Playa de muro has a great beach but I do not consider the area of Alcudia to be that good ( others will disagree )

Puerto Pollensa has a nice stretch of beach , with a nice town to go with it , but a lot quieter than the southern resorts .

Cala D'or is a lovely town and very close to Cala Mondrago . It also has its own small but nice sandy coves .

Bet you're even more confused now .

I'm downloading the Mallorca guide now. Thanks! I'm still a bit confused on where to stay, I'm actually leaning more towards the South, "Es Trenc" beach is there which I know is beautiful, and it's closer to the airport then the east coast right?

Ah I'll figure it out... thanks for responses :)

Hi sweetzz78,

Es Trenc is about 30 minutes drive from the airport while Cala D'or is 45 minutes drive.

Both on the same coastline South East, East

The nearest main town to Es Trenc is Colonia St Jordi.

You would need a car for these areas.

Es Trenc gets my vote, beautiful clear water and fine sand, just avoid the area with all the sun loungers as you come onto the beach fromthe car park. The further you walk the quieter it gets, but like all beaches in Mallorca it will be busy along its whole length at weekends.

We choose to stay in Palma and drive each day which is fine provided you find somewhere in Palma to park your car.

There is plenty of good quality accomodation in Colonia Sant Jordi, the nearest to Es Trenc. There are other very good beaches closer to the town. A peaceful town with all you need.
