Menorca Recommendation

Hi,

We really enjoyed Mallorca - nice beaches, good restaurants, traditional old towns and spectacular north west coast. Hubby wants to return but I fancy Menorca. Anyone been to both have a recommendation on how Menorca compares? Thanks v. much.

I've been to Mallorca twice and both times stayed on the west coast and travelled to the north. We stayed in Cala D'or and Sa Coma and visited Puerto Pollensa. I personally prefer Menorca. It is quieter, you can get from one end of the island to the other in less than an hour, driving is easy, getting to anywhere by car is really easy. Food and drink very good in Menorca, as it is in Mallorca. Lots to do and see on both islands, but I am biased having been to both islands I would return to Menorca more. I read on the forum years ago, that once you visit Menorca you will always return, and we have many, many times and still love it. It is a matter of opinion, but I am sure you would love it.

Hi

If you are coming all that way you need to do your research and get it right. How long are you staying and do you want to stay where there is a beach in the imediate vicinity? This is a lovely island but there are some areas that are "busier" than others which you may or may not want!

Please let us know if it is just you and your husband making the trip and would you be hiring a car(the remore beaches on the North are pretty much impossible by public transport)? Also are you planning on staying in a hotel or an apartment/villa?

Thank you both for your suggestions. This would be a July trip for just my husband and myself and we would hire a car. Either stay at a hotel (breakfast only ) or apt. Enjoy being close to a nice beach in a resort with some good restaurants, a few bars and a little shopping. Like some nightlife but we're not the late night clubbing/disco crowd. Enjoy visting traditional villages and exploring the countryside. Again, thanks very much for your help.

Compared to Mallorca Menorca is much more chilled out. I'm gonna suggest you look at 3 places: Cala Galdna will fit the bill for all your "wants", Santo Tomas is quieter still but being in the middle of the south coast is an ideal base to tour by car from. Even quieter again is the Sa Caletta/Cala Blanca area if you want it ultra quiet. Have a look at these 3 and come back for more info.

Thank you. Did some research and will begin to plan with Cala Galdna as a base. Will keep reading up on Menorca and appreciate asking the destination experts and others for help along the way. Best, Spotdog.
