May - what can we expect ?

We are planning a week in Menorca in early May, renting an apartment in Playa Fornells and a hired car for the week to explored other areas of the island.

What can we expect the weather to be like in May and will most of the restaurants be open ?

Although with the poor euro we do intend to make good use of being self catering, Does menorca have markets where you can buy fresh veg /fruit etc..

we also would like to do a lot of walking, we are not hikers ! But would like to do a bit more then just the usual walk along the prom.

Is there walking routes/paths around the island ? or can anyone suggest nice areas to walk ?

looking forward to any replies

Hi Nell,

May can be a really nice month to visit the island, the weather can be very nice, although pack for all weathers as you never quite know! In May the island slowly starts to come to life, so the later you come in May the more you will find open. Fornells has some lovely bars and restaurants that will probably all be opening up in May.

There is a large supermarket (EROSKI) in Mercadal, just down the road from Fornells, where you will be able to find everything you need. Not far away though is the capital Mao, where you will find a great fish market and fruit and veg markets.

There are several recently restored bridal paths around the island, which are perfect for lovely walks. These are called Cami de Cavalls. There is a fabulous one just down the road from Fornells, leading to a beautiful beach called Cavalleria. Here is the link to a good website: menorcaexplorer.com/en/cami-de-cavalls-route…

Hope this helps,

Raff

Hi,

There are 2 underground carparks in mahon, always the best option in the summer. Ciutadella doesn't have that, but has "blue bay" ticket parking around the town.

The markets are open everyday apart from sunday.

Hope this helps,

Raff
