luxury hotels

I've been looking at the hotels on the island and there don't seem to be many truly luxury resorts...are there any you'd recommend? i will be traveling with adults only.

At the moment all I would say is to avoid Cala N'Forcat - there is no way that it can be considered to be a luxury resort and because it is very much aimed at families it will not suit a group of adults wanting a more luxury feel from their trip.

Can you give us all some more information to enable us to help you? For example, there are few nightclubs on the island - what sort of nightlife do you want. How many are there in your party, roughly what age group are they and when are you expecting to travel ( Menorca is very much a May - mid October place) and for how long? Also, what are your "must have" and "don't want"s and what would you prefer to compromise on if needed - For example Mahon has a wonderful harbour with lots of bars and restaurants to chose from, old spanish and colonial architecture and lots of local life but no beach - you would need a water taxi across to the nearest beach or take a bus or taxi to one of the many lovely beaches that are scattered around the island. If you like sailing and water sports there are places best suited to that too but we need that little bit more information to be able to guide you in the right direction .

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm going with a friend and we're both in our late twenties. Night life doesn't matter. We're looking for creature comforts/pampering at a resort...not an all-inclusive place since we want to try local food. We're based in Ciutadella at the moment, so perhaps some place in the south? A beach would be nice...in all the swankier the better since we're roughing it the rest of the time on the island. Price is not an issue.

I see you are from NY ?( worked all my life for USA firms so have a bit of experience of American hotel standards ) so no there is nothing like the luxury hotels on Maui :-)

So first of all reset your expectations of luxury resorts ( there are none ) and then tell us what interests you about Menorca, then we might be able to help- possibly the smaller 4 star country hotels would be something to interest you

Honestly there must be a reason for Menorca, the accommodation is NOT what you come to the island for

Theonly hotel that could possibly come close would be the INSOLTEL PRESTIGE in Punta Prima on the south east coast. It has lovely rooms, a private pool, quality in-house food and has a SPA, but it is not adult only.

I agree with Menorcaislandboy, come to menorca for menorca, not it´s hotels!

You could however go for one of the rural hotels, for something a little different:

Sant Joan de Binisaida

Biniaroca

Sant Ignasi

Canaxini

Hotel Rural Binigaus Vell

Hope this helps,

Once again a superb responce from Magic trying to "big up" the only place he knows about! I would have to agree that for someone looking for a "luxury hotel" Forcat would be the last place I would think of as a reco'. Sure there might be some other people of the same age group but this OP is from the States and looking for something a bit special.

Previous advise is good - there are no truly 5* hotels on the island but that's not what stops people coming back year after year. To add to the excellent list allready given I'd like to put forward the Audax in Cala Gal Dana - I've heard the spa facilities are fantastic. There's also a couple of good'uns in Punta Prima - ask Raff for more info on these.

It's a shame that since Magicbeer started contributing it's all gone downhill on this forum - funny that it was all fine before, but Magic gets a bit nasty when we "diss" his west coast chav-haven.

Many regular posters are upset by this blatant takeover of the "Minorca" board, although you will have surely gathered by reading the terrible grammar and english from his previous posts that he is best suited to advising travellers wishing to spend time in his "specialist" area of the island - KnarwhatImeen!

Stick to what you know Magic - You're good on Forcat and Blanes - stay there!! If you continue to post on areas you know nothing about just in order to get your post count up, then good luck to you but why bother?, Becoming the first DE on this board meant something to me and you have ruined it.

I WILL RESIGN IF YOU KEEP ON WITH YOUR SINGLEMINDED RESPONSES

At least get a grammer and spell checker - your English is appaling!

To be honest, I don't know why I bother any more.

Thankyou all for your time. I wish you all the best on your holidays in Menorca, and remember it was Magicbeer08 that "broke it"

Hi JtD

I agree with everything you say with one exception :-

PLEASE DO NOT RESIGN.

Magicbeer, your posts on Forcat/Blanes are very thorough so why not just leave your responses to Topics on that side of the Island.

Would you expect MenReg to recommend Santo Tomas when somebody wants a lively resort. No didn't think so. Some of your posts have me in stitches. Why oh why mention Forcat when somebody wants luxury Hotels? A luxury Full English Breakfast then maybe.

Anyway, I second Raff's comments re. Insotel Punta Prima Prestige. We loved it.

@JtheD

don't resign, think of a beach and breath out slowly :-)

Back to orignal post. If you want to be pampered for a few days after roughing it then the hotels mentioned above or a country hotel- all will be 20mn taxi of a beautiful beach.

Binigaus is one of the most beautiful ( textile free in places ) beaches IMHO on the south coast so maybe Hotel Rural Binigaus Vell

Cami De Sa Mala Garba Km 0.9, 07749 Es Migjorn Gran

4 star (spanish rating so 3 USA ) converted farmouse . Hotel Binigaus Vell is less than 3 km from Binigaus and Sant Tomas Beach

I agree we cannot afford to lose Jon's imput - not only was he the first DE we had on this forum, but is he SO good at advice on the island as a whole - not just about resorts but about the towns and places to go that the reps do not mention. He is also superb in his knowledge of the area surrounding his own base in the North- its watersports, hidden beaches and the like. Not everyone goes to the island to stay in a resort for your standard beach holiday – a lot of people also want to know more about interesting things to do, walks and the towns inland and historical places of interest - the forum would not be the same without Jon’s contributions.

I do not like the recent online infighting on the forum either. The forum is the place for advice on places and friendly conversation, not personal digs at people and I hope that it will soon settle down again to what it was - comments on places not people.

From his posts so far, it does not seem that Magicbeer has explored the island much outside of his own area of expertise ( Cala N’Forcat etc.) and that is fine too, but his lack of knowledge of the island as a whole ( which he has acknowledged from time to time),such as its country house hotels, nature reserves, isolated beaches and cultural stuff outside of fiestas is limited.

PLEASE JON, DO NOT RESIGN OVER THIS – WE NEED YOU!!!!

Don't go John, it's not you that should be going, come on Magic, give the guy a break, stick to what you know, i have been to Menorca on several occasions and thank the Lord, only to Forcat once !! leave the rest of the island to the experts who know what they are talking about, and yes, advertise Forcat if you must, to those who are easily pleased, and want a mini British holiday abroad.
