Mobile phone charges

Hi, can anyone give any advise re mobile phone costs when making calls within Minorca. I know it will vary depending on the provider but is there some general advise or suggestions as to the best (cheapest) way to communicate by mobile, many thanks

It is capped by Europen law now, full detail is in on this link moneywise.co.uk/news-views/2010/06/11/eu-win…

What I would do, is check your phone settings, as an example if your on vodafone, that it will not give priority to that network on the island.

The best coverage I find in Ciutedella and nearby resorts is on Movistar and Air Tel.

Dont forget if your phone is their network, you get charged for voice mail messages left.

You may find that for short calls that using a prepaid phone card ( available in the local supermarkets) in the on the street phone boxes will work out cheaper than using your mobile - if you do use the mobile there will be charges to both make and receive calls with texting being the cheapest option ( but still chargeable even if you have a UK bundle allowance)

Even if you are only planning to use the phone for emergencies you should contact your provider BEFORE you go because otherwise you may find that there is a block on your phone making it impossible to make or recieve calls at all. We didn't think about this in advance and then had to ring Talkmobile ( Carphone Warehouse's own tariff) from a landline from Menorca to get the block removed before our phones would work. The local First Choice Rep said that we were lucky that they agreed to do this at that stage as she had had several other clients who were with Orange who had also found that their phones were blocked for overseas use but when they contacted Orange they had refused to remove the block "for security reasons" saying that it had to be done BEFORE the user goes abroad !
