Annual car hire insurance excess cover policies

After the spate of posts connected to car hire damage excess issues, whether to take out the rental companies own CWD extension cover or just buy an annual policy damage, I thought it would be a good idea for people who have taken out their own insurance policy prior to going away to cover potential liabilities for damage to hire cars not covered in the standard cover on the rental agreement to mention ones that they use.

It would be especially helpful to people considering doing this for the first time to know how easy ( or otherwise) it has been to reclaim any money charged by the hire firm for damage to cars when returned to them at the end of the hire.

No stories of how you feel that you got ripped off by car hire firms alleging damage that you do not think you caused please - just factual info about the policy providers you have used and how quickly you got your money back in the event of having to make a claim so people can decide whether to buy such a policy, buy the car hire firms own daily charge top up ( which is unlikely to cover underside damage) or just risk it and stick with the basic insurance cover and excess provided in the hire charge

I am bumping this up to see if anyone has any "Good Buy" recommendations to make either for an annual or short trip policy specifically to cover excess claims relating to hire car incidents.

Janine100 has said on another thread that she has used www.worldwideinsure.com and there must be lots of similar firms so any good or bad experiences anyone else has had may be helpful to others either planning ahead for next summer or hiring in the near future

All these 'new' excesses are down to insurance companies changing their policies to the local hire car companies so surely this is always a moving target? T&Cs fine print nightmare if you ask me :-)

Notice there is an article in 'daily Mail' regarding sharp practices in Spain regarding car hire and extra insurance demands with companies refusing to even look look at customers' own insurance policies and demanding huge sums on credit cards cards for indemnity contingencies. Gold Cars in Majorca were one company mentioned with their response.
