Going to Fuerteventura!

So after much deliberation, umming and ahhhing about destinations (Kos/Sardinia/Rhodes etc) we're going to Fuerteventura mid June.

Just need some advice on where to stay - Playa Sotavento looks stunning? or is it like this on most of the coasts? heard the south had a heavy German influence and English is only just starting to be catered for? (sounds odd to me!)

We're a late 30/40's couple and basically want to chill out for a few days, enjoy the stunning beaches and visit the local bars in the evening - nothing crazy/too busy - but want most things in walking distance - happy to look at 4*+ hotels or self catering.

Don't intend to be hiring a car as we're only going for 4 days (flights are easily available for this so no worries there) - however - willing to consider it if the cost of the transfers etc makes it worth doing anyway?

Thanks in advance and getting excited now we've chosen our destination! :-)

Thanks! a few questions, Corralejo seems to be the more popular location with a lot of complaints about other areas such as Jandia swamped by/catered for German tourists - I don't mind where tourists come from, but I've read a lot of complaints re the treatment towards other nationalities especially in the Jandia area so will probably avoid that.

Is Corralejo the best option or is there another area we should consider/east coast etc? we want to be within walking distance of the stunning beaches and local town for evening drinks/meals etc.

Hotel wise, we've got 3 in mind, from they top end to more affordable - but happy to look outside of these 2 areas too! :)

1. Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia Real (Corralejo)

2. Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort (Caleta De Fuste)

3. Suite Hotel Atlantis Fuerteventura Resort (Corralejo)

Thanks in advance!

If your preference is for stunning beaches as much as i prefer Caleta I would recommend you go to Corralejo. Depending on your fitness you could walk out to the beach however its a long slog especially if its hot. You can get a bus to the Rui Hotel and walk from there or a local taxi would cost around 5 euros.. Also if your in the area its quite near Cotillo where there are some stunning lagoons around the lighthouse you can get the bus here from Corralejo.

if you want stunning beaches without a car then you need to go to El Cotillo or Jandia.

I would recommend hiring a car and stay at Corralejo for the nightlife. Use the car to travel to the beach and lagoons at El Cotillo and the Dunes beach. You could even drive down to Sotavento/Jandi for a day out.

From what you have written about what you would like to do, El Cotillo may be a good place for you. Have a look at what people have said about it in this forum. Check if the highly rated Oliastur apartments have any availability.

I would do exactly what Greg said. And if you really didn't want to hire a car you can go to El Cotillo by bus.

I guess if hiring a car/petrol isn't much dearer than paying for the transfers - then it makes sense - i'll look into it as gives a bit more freedom (if only for 3 days) + no messing around with luggage and coaches etc

thanks all for the advice :)
