is november a good time?

we hope to go to La Gomera sometime in late November. Is this a good time? we would prefer to avoid renting a car but wonder if there are sufficient buses? Does anyone know please?

mid November through to February you're more likely to get some rain but still reasonable temperatures around the southern coasts. The rain is more likely if you are in the mountains or on the northern side. Check the web for weather info in detail. The advantage of November is that it is a quiet period for visitors and flights are usually cheaper too.

The main bus routes (only 3) all start and finish in San Sebastian - the capital where the ferry comes in. You can also take the Olsen hydrofoil from there to Playa Santiago and Valle Gran Rey on the south coast. So I'd recommend SS if you want to see the island and rely on public transport but you could also consider say a couple of nights in SS. Take the bus to Vallehermoso - stop over there. Take a bus to Cercado and then the bus down to VGR and stop there a couple of nights. THen the hydrofoil back to SS. There are variations on this using the different bus routes depending on how long you have. You shouldn't find difficulty getting accommodation in November. Have a great time. jevvy

Depends what you want to do? For walking November is a good time because in general it is a little cooler but still very pleasant with temperatures in the mid 20's during the day. Nightime temperatures are dropping and probably in the region of 18-20 which makes sleeping (without a/c) very comfortable. Sea temperature will still be a pleasant 22-24 deg. Probability of rain remains slight and if it happens will be limited to a few days in the month. The drawback to November (in my opinion) is that it is the onset of our very short winter and if you're into flowers & plants the mountain walks will be a little disappointing with everything a bit brown and autumn looking.

I agree with Jevvy that San Sebastian is the best centre if you want to use public transport and again in my opinion it is more than adequate for getting around the island. Plenty of reasonably priced apartment accommodation available and eating & drinking remains much lower cost than N. Europe.

If you haven't visited La Gomera before I have no doubt you'll enjoy it's laid-back unspoiled ambiance. If you're looking for exciting nightlife, fast food and expensive shopping....this ain't the place!!

We had a great time in La Gomera in late November / early December. Temperatures were typically in the low 20's [22 - 23] but on one day we encountered 28 degrees by the sea and 9 degrees in the hills! We had a car for 3 days of the 2 weeks and thought that well worthwhile. Bus frequency is a bit limited but take a look at the timetable and you'll see if it works for you.
