One week to go- help!!

Hi booked this trip 12 weeks ago, travelling to GC next Monday 28 May. Life has been so hectic havent been able to research the trip. Booked self catering villa in San Agustin. From what I gather this is a quiet residential area. Travelling with parents late 50s and four sister in 20s and nephew aged 4.

1. we havent hired a car as its expensive to hire people carrier for two weeks and wont be going out everyday as own pool etc. Where would you recommend to hire car for couple of days?

2. Is it easy to get around by bus to the market in P.R and to Las Palmas?

3. Where are the best outlets shops for a bargain and how do you get there?

4. Is it easy to get taxis at night to PDI/Maspalomas, where do you recomend for a reasonable meal out and entertainment?

5. Which is the best walking distance beach to San Augustin

6. Is San Augstin tourist at all or all residential?

7. Where can one fish and take the fish away?

8. Any other suggestions for activities like theme parrk, go kart racing, jet skiing etc

Sorry too many questions. We are there for two weeks so lots of time to kill and explore the island as well as relax.

Thanks for your replies.

1. I have never hired a car in all the holidays I have had on GC and never missed not having one. I drive in Spain and have a car here so that isn't the issue. Public transport is excellent and especially in San Agustin you will easily get to las Palmas, Playa del Ingles/Maspalomas, Puerto Rico (but don't bother) and Puerto Mogan. You would want to book a tour if you were going inland anyway. I think that covers 2 as well.

3. There is a big outlet mall as you approach Las Palmas but the only way to get there is by the 90 bus which goes twice in the morning or by going to Las Palmas and coming back. Frankly I wouldn't bother as Outlet has become a debased word here and lots of shops are having special price reductions all the time .Today for instance Cortefiel had loads at 50% off. Only allowed to call them sales (rebajas) at specified times of the year (July and August) but shop pricing is very inventive. Lots of shopping around, Vecindario is the nearest biggish place to San Agustin but Las Palmas is best. Look on here for some of my previous answers for the perfect shopping day in Las Palmas!

5. There is a beach at San Agustin, never used it but it looks OK from the bus, otherwise it is a walk along the paseo to Playa del Ingles.. I would probably prefer to catch the bus to Maspalomas and walk back.

6. San Agustin has a large mall with lots of Chinese type shops and some restaurants and a few nice cafes. There is a gym too. There are several large hotels and the spa at Gloria Palace has had rave reviews. Also a casino at Tamarindos.

No idea where to fish. I suspect either Arguinagan, Puerto Rico or Puerto Mogan.

8. Theme park is either Holiday World in Maspalomas or Palmitos Park. Look them up they have been reviewed here many times. Go karting is quite close to San Agustin and beach activities are at Playa del Ingles main beach. Not far away.

The main tourist office is on the corner of the Yumbo Centrum with a bus stop outside and you are bound to want to go to the Yumbo both day and night so make it early in your holiday and pick up lots of brochures.

Thanks ab2pcs google very good but it cannot beat the destination experts on trip advisor. I know alexandramair, I should be more organised next time. But you know how it is with work, family etc. manzana I really appreciate your reply and won't bother with the car, will use buses and taxis. Sounds like San Augastin is not as residential as I thought. Is the fri market in PR or PM? Is that worth a visit? 2 days to go! Will post my findings on my return

Friday market is in Puerto Mogan and since a trip there is always worthwhile it is a good time to go.

There is a nice, but crowded, little beach at Mogan and I regretted not having my beach things with me last time we went. On a hot day, which it will be, a quick dip in safe water is almost a necessity.

You can use the boat from Puerto Rico to Puerto Mogan, or return, as one way of your trip and even catch some dolphins on the way (not literally). Info on here if you search.
