Apartments for a January visit

Please can anyone help with the following. We are going to Gran Canaria again in January 2015 staying at Cala Blanca in Puerto Rico. We love these apartments are are happy with the position they are in on the front.

We have also stayed in Peurto de Mogan at the same time of year (Jan) and found that the apartment we had rented did not get any sun until midday. I know it was because of the valley situation but it has put us off. The resort is lovely, but nothing happens after 11pm when the restaurants close. We are not clubbers but mature holidaymakers who like a good restaurant and a nice bar to have a coffee and brandy in afterwards and some signs of life. We usually have a car and can visit this resort as many times as we like without actually staying there.

We have also stayed in San Augustin at the Melia Tamarindos and loved the hotel, but it was very quiet at night. We were not keen on the area between San Augustin and Play del las Americas. Can anyone recommend a resort that is not in a valley situation and gets more sun in the winter months. Looking for an apartment rental with washing machine.

Thanks
