Where best to stay

Hi. I am seeking advice on what area is best to stay in November in Gran Canaria. My husband and I are looking to have a weeks break in November to have a relaxing break in the sun on the beach. We would like somewhere reasonably quiet, ie no loud nightlife etc but plenty of bars, restaurants. Our budget is fairly tight £1000 max.

Any advice would be welcome.

Three possibilities. The south has the best weather and Puerto de Mogan is the nicest resort, nicely busy by day and quietly relaxing in the evening - good for restaurants not great for bars.

Puerto Rico is cheaper, you'll do it in budget but must accept it is a bit tacky in places, though many like it - better for bars not bad for restaurants.

Las Canteras is the 3km beach in Las Palmas, weather is good in November - lots of restaurants and bars and only a quick bus ride into the city centre for even more restaurants and bars around the old part of the city - La Vegueta.

I suggest you read my contributions on Mogan, Las Canteras and La Vegueta and others for Puerto Rico.

I've been to the south and Las Palmas 8 times in all in November - all great trips, you can't go wrong. Try Owners Direct as well for apartments.

Good luck.
