...a bit later than expected due to me leaving my passport on the plane on the return flight and the ground handler customer service at Gatwick not being as efficient as it maybe could have been - 2.5 hours wait to get it back!
Despite my best efforts to get the holiday off to a bad start by taking us to the wrong car park at Gatwick at 3am, we made it and the flight arrived early on the way out.
It was our first trip to Tenerife and overall we were pleasantly surprised and found it to be very clean and well looked after. Admittedly we didn't venture very far from our accommodation as we needed a week of relaxation, but the area around Parque de la Paz was great. The weather was great too, only one cloudy day.
We took a trip to Siam Park on Thursday (and loved it) and went out for dinner each night. Our favourite restaurant was Picasso near the front at the Vistasur complex. We found the food there to be lovely, good portion sizes, great selection, very friendly staff and good prices. So good that we went back more than once. I also liked the Monkey Bar Grill food, oh, and the chocolate fudge cake at the Corner Bar!
One evening that deserves special mention was seeing a couple of guys called BWB at the Soul Suite. They were so good we reserved a table and went back and saw them another night. They were on on sunday and tuesday last week and were a great act.
We were really pleased by Parque de la Paz and our 2-bed apartment, which was on two floors facing the pool. Upsides were the spacious apartment & balcony and general level of upkeep of the complex (very good). Downsides were lack of hot water (not enough for 3 showers and took ages to heat up again), noise from the entertainment at night (which I somehow got used to very quickly), together with the twice-nightly bingo sessions and nightly raffle (really not my thing!). We did watch a couple of acts at the hotel - a guy doing reggae (not good) and Bitter & Twisted on our last night (who were brilliant).
Oh, and thanks to all of those who provided us with early morning entertainment - watching people go down to the pool and sit on strategically placed chairs until the loungers were unlocked - priceless! If that's the way you want to spend you holiday, then good luck to you! I'd rather have a relaxed breakfast and then saunter down at 10-11am. We did that each morning and had no problems finding spare loungers.
Overall, a good relaxing break, which was just what we were after. Would definitely return.
