Is Puerto de la Cruz for us

Hi All,

We are coming to Tenerife for our annual visit in May.

We have a timeshare in the South, however we are picking up our friends at the airport and we have a hire car and have a spare couple of days before timeshare week. We are thinking of doing something different rather than just going to our usual haunts.

Would anyone recommend PDLC?

We are mixed ages between 40 and 51.

We like good food, a few wines, more good food, more wine.... You get the picture!

We also need someplace to stay for a couple of nights. Dont mind paying £100 per room per night. Any recommendations?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Bob

I would say yes I do thinnk you would enjoy PDLC, plenty of places to eat from cheap and cheerful to the full works. Plenty of very nice hotels both intown and on the outskirts, I would suggest to start with looking at San Felipe {right on the sea front or if you wanted to be away from the town I would highly reccomend Puerto Palace. In town the Monopol is a nice hotel or the H10 Tenerife Playa just by the Lido Martinez. I am sure others will come in as well to suggest more hotels :0)

Hope this helps

I agree with Sparrow ...there is nothing to dislike in Puerto ..and I think the San Felipe Hotel would fit in with your budget ...right on the sea front ,with a sea or Teide view ...The sea does make a bit of a noise though with the waves crashing ....not much sun on that side ....but sun most of the day Teide side ...

We love this hotel with such friendly staff ... lovely gardens and pools ....

Lots to see in Puerto and near by .... The Jardin Botanico...Loro Park ....The Orchid Garden (Sitio Litre) ....Abaco Mansion ... A nice walk along the front with shady plazas on the way to sit and take a cooling drink and passing the Lido .... and on to Plaza del Charco ....

Take a look at my pics on my profile page ....

And if you have time ,just 10 minutes away the beautiful town of Orotava and the Casa los Balcons ....

Hi, we love Puerto, as did my parents. A lovely old traditional town, dating back to 1600s, shady squares to have a ice cream and watch the world go by. A traffic free sea front to take a walk after dinner, even a casino. A drive into the lush Oratava Valley with spectacular views over the bay. To the west of the town is a lovely set of 3 black sandy beaches, linked with gardens, bars and restaurants, leading to the world famous Loro Parque.

So you see a few days will not be long enough.

Hi , we stay for a few months in the South every year ,but we absolutely love Puerto. If you like places with character you'll love it. As Sylla says "what's not to like" The only reason we don't stay there is because the weather is generally better in the South. The Monopol is a lovely hotel and I loved where it was just off the old square. They quote the same price for a room if you walk in off the street as it is on the internet. It's just so different from the South of the Island. I agree that there would be so many places to see you could easily fill a few days .

Hi, the weather is not always better in the south.

We were in Puerto in November, when we had two weeks of a cloud less sky. Whereas the south was very cloudy.

We have noticed that as the south and west of the island has developed over the past 30, with more landscaping so a micro climate has been established.

We always return from Puerto with a lovely tan.

Hi Ricky, Sorry if I was misleading ,I just have always been told that! I noticed this year in the south there was a lot of cloud ,over half of the 9 weeks we were there were cloudy days ,and I did notice watching the Carnival on TV from Santa Cruz the weather did seem to be sunnier! Puerto and the surrounding areas are beautiful . We intend to spend some more time there when we're back next year.

edele ...I am told by Canarians , that the volcanic soil attracts the moisture in the air ....and I notice that as the day goes by clouds do collect around Teide , but not always blocking out the sun .....and there is often a mist/cloud hanging over the Orotava Valley ....

I have now spent just as much time in the North ,South and West ....and I have expereinced almighty downpours in all areas ....

For the exact same reason that it's very green in Jamaica, Thailand and Sri Lanka ;)
