First time in the north for New year

Looking at going for New Year this year and wondered if the festivities are the same in Cruz as the rest of the islands?

Ie, Fireworks, Gala Dinners and those silver bags filled with goodies?

Don´t know about silver bags filled with goodies, never seen them in the south of the island which is where I live and IMO really knows how to celebrate the New Year, but there are certainly plenty of Gala Dinners and spectacular fireworks with Los Cris competing against Las Americas.

I would imagine Puerto will be very similar, but you really need the Puerto aficionados to confirm so hopefully they will see your post now it is back on page 1.

Yes, you do get silver bags filled with goodies in some places in Puerto. The Beehive Bar definitely does them as do some restaurants. And they're on sale all over the place.

New Year is massive in Puerto with the locals dressing up to the nines for the celebrations. There are plenty of gala dinners but the place to be is in Plaza Charco and around the harbour for midnight for the firework display.

After that it's live bands in Plaza Charco until... well, until you decide to call it a night.

It's a great night.

Have been for a Gala dinner in Puerto and while they are very nice they do take a long time. much prefer to be out and about and as Gusto says the Plaza del charco is the place to be to savour the atmosphere, eat a few grapes and enjoy the fireworks. I am sure you will enjoy the experience.

Hi, Puerto is a great time to celebrate Christmas right up to Twelfth Night. Our young children loved the Nativity, with real people and animals. But their highlight was when wrapped sweets rained down on them from fireworks.

Plaza del Charco is definitely the place to be.

Puerto is great at New Year. The whole town starts to really liven up from around 23.00 as the locals arrive into the town for the celebrations and the party continues until well into the early hours. Don't expect to get much sleep!

Have fun

Hi Rickybear, Im going to hotel beside Golf Club in Play del las Americas between 18th December and 1st Jan and wondered should we go one way to Los Christianos or the other to Las Americas for the best fireworks display - could you also recommend the best website on the internet that gives the most accurate description of the weather Ive never gone any later than two days before xmas so not too sure of the weather.

Paisley Princess,

You have logged onto a thread for the North of Tenerife, maybe one of the south experts will be able to help give the benefit of their experience.
