Road side theft "BE AWARE" car travelers!!!

My parents were on their way driving south from Barcelona headed to Granada when they were approached by a car occupied by 2 men a driver and a passenger that were waving down my parents indicating that their rear tire ways about to fall off the vehicle and that they were in danger. They immediately pulled over to verify the danger they were in a in matter of a few seconds two other individuals out of nowhere stole anything they could get their hands on out of their car including money, documents and mobile phones. They were left stranded on the motorway with nothing but a shocking experience. This is a common method to slow down motorist that have been targeted by road side spotters. Use extreme caution avoid pulling over in desolated areas, stop for no reason unless you’re in a safe place like a service station or a busy city center. Often objects are thrown at passing vehicles to cause you to stop, pull over and check that all in ok before you get car jacked. Keep cash, documents and credit cards in your socks or underwear as back up emergency funds incase you become a unfortunate victim of these terrible orchestrated car jacking executions. DON’T BE A VICTIM!

Sad to hear this happened to your parents, but this has been reported to happen since years ago in many highways of Spain, France, Italy and other countries. This is not limited to this particular highway or area.

There are news now and then when Police dismantled some of these mafia organizations (they are not 'independent' criminals) but as they are usually miles away when the victim can report the crime, they are very difficult to eradicate. The only advice is NEVER immediately stop if someone says something is happening to your car, wait until you reach a rest area with other people around. After a couple of minutes they will stop waving at you anyway and look for an easier target. Please stay calm and think: if you really had some damage in your car as dramatic as having the rear tires about to fall off you will have noticed something!... and if it's not that important it can wait. They are very smart and they play with the fears of people. Knowledge about these scams is the best way to fight them.

Today driving out of Barcelona on the highway we heard a loud bang on the roof of our hired car . Hell of a shock so we decide to pull over to examine vehicle. Another car immediately pulled over with 3 people inside with woman shouting out of the window pointing at our car . We all got out (4 of us) & driver of other vehicle carrying some white paper took us around back of car to rear tyre. Next minute another silver car came racing in between both cars with people running everywhere screaming . We jumped back into our car screaming to each other to get back inside our car & next thing they all drove off . A metal strip with spikes had been placed on the ground in front of our car but was taken with them . We were extremely lucky we were all ok & nothing taken . could the 2nd car have been police ?? Or is this all part of the hijacking attempt ?
