What kind of city tour is best, Segway vs. Coach

We are going to Barcelona in a week and are trying to decide what is the best way to do an city overview tour the first day. We land at 8:00 AM and stay at the Renaissance close to the airport. We are a married couple, just the two of us, and fairly independent travelers, but would like to make the most of our very short visit. Our hotel concierge has emailed us different options for city touring, Barcelona Highlights Tours by coach, get-on/get-off options with 44 stops, or, what we may really enjoy, Segway touring with a guide who gets great reviews. Any coaching would be much appreciated. Jackie & Erik

If you want an overview of Barcelona i would do the Bus Turstic tour- there are acouple of different journeys to do and you should see all the main sites Barcelona has to offer, then get off at the ones you want to see.

The airport buses stop where the bus turstic buses arrive and depart.

i'd recommended visiting friends the 'bus turistic' and they all liked it for getting an overview. you can start/end the bus turistic at any stop, the most convenient to you.

see www.barcelonabusturistic.cat

i would prefer this to a coach tour as you can decide which stops interest you more and how long you stay on each

in any case, be aware the old city is impossible to visit on bus/coach the streets are too narrow. there are walking and bicycle tours, i saw sometimes the segways you say (look fun)

check barcelonaturisme.com/English/_3Ngb8YjSpL2a3y… this is the official tourism site of the city

Hello jdlunk,

I already did both: the bus tour and a Segway tour. Of course, Segway is much more fun. It is really nice to go along the beach.

The segway tour starts and ends in the gothic quarter and goes to the Columbus statue and further along the beaches. But you'll only see that area and get basic information.

If you want to know more about our experience with segway check this:

Doing the bus tour you'll also see the Sagrada Familia, the Camp Nou and all the other important sights. That's also not bad to get an overview of the city. It may be a bit cold now to sit on top, but there are some seats insight.

As gatamaula already mentioned there are the tours from bus turístic, but there is also another company called barcelona city tours. Both offer almost the same routes.

We found the bus touristica the best circular tour, as you can hop on and hop off to the places of interest. The informative audio is very discriptive.
