Girona or Tarragona?

For our trip to Barcelona early next year, we have our day trip planned, but have time for one more. That will be a toss up between the above two towns. Any advice?

Girona has a little bit more to see, but Tarragona has its own points of interest. Flip a coin.

Hola Duncan,

Have you read the day trips' articles on Girona and Tarragona in the Top Questions? They'll give you a brief idea of what you'll see in each place. You could also look JoseAntonio's photo albums on pbase for a 'visual tour'.

Hmm. Both delightful. Girona has it's walls which are spectacular but IMO Tarragona is one of the loveliest small cities in Europe. Wandering the lanes around the cathedral, visiting the extensive Roman and later sites (the Circ Roma and the Passeig Arqueologic are excellent). getting your photo taken with the Castelers statue along Rambla Nova and for something really different, visiting the Casa de la Festa could create some memorable moments in your holiday. I've spent much more time in tarragona than in Girona so perhaps I'm biased and whichever you choose will be a contrast to Barcelona, so you can't go wrong, really.

Thank you all. It seems like Tarragona has a slight edge.
