where to visit after barcelona

My husband and I will be spending a week a week in Barcelona then a six day bike trip along the Costa Brava. We will have one more week before we fly home from Barceclona. We wplanning to spend our last week in Madrid but are reconsidering that plan.

Where would you suggest to visit during that last week?

Thanks!

hi,

perhaps a different landscape? if you are biking for Costa Brava, then you can "change" the landscape and go to the south...for instance:

.) "terra alta"

http://www.terra-alta.org/index.htm

landscape of olives tree and almonds, complety different arquitecture (Arnes, Horta de Sant Joan, El Pinell del Brai...) , history (from medieval buildings, modernist celler and scenarios of the civil war)

.) Conca De Barberà:

http://www.concadebarbera.info/

landscampe of olives and vinegards, medieval towns (Esplugues, Montblanc) , great monasterys (Poblet, Santes Creus) etc...

Both not very touristics and with lots of places to walk and bike .-)

The last week you can spend in Madrid. Do day trips to Toledo, Segovia and Cordoba. Read the top questions in the Madrid forum for these day trips.

We are going to the Pyrenees for hiking after Barcelona, I hope it will be great (Aiguestortes National Park and Ordesa y Monte Perdido National park).

Thanks everyone!

Would anyone recommend Valencia or Seville? We do like the idea of seeing a different Spanish culture.

One week in Seville might be too long. Two or three days seems plenty to me. You could round out your week with Córdoba, Granada and/or Cádiz.

What time of year will you be going? Have you considered going north? Pais Vasco, Cantabria, Asturies and Galicia have beautiful landscapes, fascinating culture and amazing food.

You could still go to Madrid (and do some the day-trips) but consider adding a day or two in Zaragoza on the way.

Zaragoza was under Muslim rule until the early 12th century so has a palace built by Muslim craftsmen, and the cathedral also reflects their heritage. There's a lot more to Zaragoza than that, it was also a Roman city for example and has a major baroque basilica (El Pilar). Great food too!

Alternatively, if this is a summer trip then I agree with Monsieur-Ghis that the north coast (Bay of biscay and Atlantic) also offer you a huge contrast with Mediterranean Spain.

You could spend 3 days in Seville, which enchants everyone. Read the top questions in the Seville forum for what to see there. A good hotel there is the Hotel Becquer.
