Train from Paris, to Lourdes, France, to Barcelona, Spain

We are arriving in Paris via plane. Any suggestions on what area to stay that is closed to the main attractions but also closed to the train station. We are planning on taking the train from Paris to Lourdes, France where we are staying overnight. We will leave the next day to Barcelona and stay overnight before our cruise. This is our first time to travel in Europe and we do not have any idea which type of train to take. Because of the time constraint, we plan on taking a fast train but we do not know which one. We also need help on the names of the terminals in Paris, Lourdes, and Barcelona. Please help. Thanks.

Hola tobysly and welcome to TA Barcelona,

I'm sure you'll get a lot of help on TA Paris with your trip-planning for that segment of your journey. For general train travel info, you can read the Man in Seat 61. http://www.seat61.com/

Re: Lourdes to Barcelona, if the dates suit you, also consider flying via www.vueling.com for as low as 34. 99 euros one-way. It's a 1-hr flight.

Which one is more economical, plane or train? There are 6 of us traveling with 2 luggages each. Thanks for your response :).

There's no direct train from Lourdes to Barcelona. You will have to change trains and the whole journey will be 5+ hours.

If you can fly, it will save you both time and money.

If you only have 2 days before the cruise why not just fly into Barcelona and see Barcelona? 1 night in Paris and 1 night in Lourdes to start a trip would be quite tiring.

We just got back from our Europe trip. One of our friends in Spain was able to find a driver who picked us up from Lourdes to take us to Barcelona. It was the easiest, most comfortable and most enjoyable way to cross the border. There were 7 of us and he charged us 100 Euros each for the trip. It was well worth it considering we did not have to wake up so early to catch the train from Lourdes to Toulouse, lug the heavy luggages from hotel to taxi to trains and in between train platforms in Toulouse (no elevator or escalator), no wasted waiting time or stress about meeting train schedules. I highly recommend this for travellers who are not young anymore or those who want a leisurely pace. The drive through the Pyreenes mountains and the quaint French towns was spectacular. He even made a side trip to Montserrat and that is already a big saving in time and money. Our driver was Jose Manuel Alvarez who was not only a safe driver but very personable and friendly. He can be contacted at auto.taxialvarez@gmail.com or at 34 616 957 895 or 34 676 103 528.

We travelled to Barcelona from Lourdes very recently end of Dec 2013 and used the recommended taxi driver Mr. Jose Manuel Alvarez. We were very happy with him and definitely felt very safe with him. He drove us to Torreciudad and Montserrat on our way to Barcelona and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit with him. He was very friendly and spoke good enough English. He was prompt and reliable given we had a very early morning drive out from Lourdes. Besides he was very cautious and took special care to the needs of my 70 year old parent and my two kids age 6 and 5 years who were also travelling with us. I would definitely like to recommend this driver if anyone was planning a similar trip. His email id: auto.taxialvarez@gmail.com or at 34 616 957 895 or 34 676 103 528
