You can get very good discounts if you do early enough.

Plus, this is a very busy line, mostly used by business travellers going to Madrid, but at certain times trains get full. I use it often both for business and personal reasons. On weekdays, sometimes I could not get my preferred train times when booking less than one week in advance.

Here a lot of useful information to buy ticket with Renfe (in english)

Some weeks ago we went to Zaragoza by bus, it is a cheaper option, in case you are interested.

Check first how many hours will take with the 2 options and of course the time of departure and arrival better for you! Have a nice trip!

The bus is cheaper (around 30€) but it takes 3:45-4 hours each way. I used these buses too many times to remember, as well the slow trains (when I lived in Zaragoza was before the AVE train) and, it is of course feasible, but spending 8 hours on the road is not exactly what I would classify as an enjoyable day trip. Arriving in less than 2 hours... is a whole different world! Booking in advance, you can get fast train tickets for about 50€, sometimes for less.
