I'm not sure I understand your question completely. What trips? Are you thinking of day trips from the city, or are you thinking of the actual trip to Barcelona (and home again)?

With a little clarification, it'll be easier to give you a good answer :)

Sorry about the vagueness of my question. We are staying in Barcelona for four days and want to go t to Sagrada Famillia which I know we would be better pre-booking also Monseratt and a few other places. I wondered if we are better booking before we go and if so who with....thank you in advance for any replies

When? SagFam, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, Palau Güell and Nou Camp in high season is imperative to pre-book (or risk very long queues). Park Güell is compulsory to pre-book all year round for the monumental part as there's a limit of nbr of visitors per hour. Montserrat is not an attraction, is a geographical area which has impressive landscapes plus an abbey plus a museum plus a couple of other landmarks, so no pre-booking needed.

<... and a few other places....>, which places?

Faye:

I would book hotels early. You never know when there will be congresses or conventions.

In February, they will have the Mobile World Congress 2014, which will take place 24 -27 February 2014. In past years this has attracted 60,000 people and filled all hotels.

5. Re: Pre booking trips before we go

Pre-booking the hotel and flights is always smart. I've already booked an apartment, round trip flight and am about to book a hotel - and I'm going in June :)

A day trip to Montserrat probably won't need to be booked ahead, unless maybe if you're taking a guided bus tour. If you're going there by yourselves (see one of the top questions to the right on this site, "How can I make a day trip to Montserrat?") you can just .. go whenever you want. I've never been there, but we're thinking of going for a day trip when we visit in June - we'll probably take the train, it's cheaper than a bus tour.
