Sorry to be dim! Are the tickets for the guided tours? Can we not just visit the cathedral without tickets?

Hola Masha,

No need to apologize. Pls see the Top Question about visiting the Sagrada Familia (linked below).

You can get tickets for just admission, admission with audio guide, admission with audio guide and elevator ride, admission with other options.... The Sagrada Familia construction is funded by public donation. Proceeds from admission tickets - this is what enables the complex to be built.

Masha:

The Sagrada Familia Basilica is not the Cathedral. They are different churches.

The Cathedral is the short name for the Cathedral of Saint Eulalia (Catedral de Santa Eulàlia) and it's located downtown: http://www.catedralbcn.org/ and, as someone corrected me sometime ago, it's the only cathedral in the city as every city can have only one.

You can book the entrance online and then decide about the audioguide when you are inside (Sagrada Familia)

A city can have only one Roman Catholic cathedral but several places have a Catholic and a Protestant one (London has, Liverpool has and I imagine they are not alone).

And even some cities have two cathedrals from the same confession, i.e. there are 2 Catholic cathedrals in Zaragoza. In that case they are known as concathedrals... Just to add to the confusion ;-))

... yes, and to even add more confusion... in Barcelona, the church of Santa Maria del Mar is nicknamed the Cathedral of the Sea ;))
