Choosing an apartment....help please

Hi! I'm in the process of organising a long weekend away for 8 40ish women. I'd like an apartment with 4 bedrooms but we are ok with 2 two bedroom apartments. Can you help me choose? I have 3 I'm thinking of. We're there 1 oct to 5 oct.

Happy Apartments, Nou de la Rambla, Cuitat Vella

BWH Born - Playa, Passeig de Picasso , 38 Ciutat Vella

Comer. Arts, Comercio 33 2-2, Ciutat Vella

The last one is 4 bedrooms. We would like safe (most important) and convenient. With 8 we figure we'll be breaking off into smaller groups then meeting up in the evening. Any comments on these or other suggestions?

Thank you for your help!

I personally wouldn't choose Nou de la Rambla as it's located in the seedier area of El Raval neighbourhood. From the other two, they're both next to each other literally around the corner. The area is El Born which is much nicer. Carrer Comerç will be a bit quieter traffic-wise but not much as the apt is by the corner with a main avenue.

Thank you Gigi's mom for the street links. Funny but option 4 is now booked (not by us!) . After seeing the street views I would personally rather be in the Born area. Thank you Enric for that link as well and Slatkin for your insight. i really appreciate all of your advice. Anyway, the joys of a big group! It'll be great once accommodation is sorted. I love doing research at least....making everyone happy might be a challenge tho!

Thanks all! It's booked(not by me...) APBCN Center Serra 8, Cuitat Vella. I'm sure it'll be fine. Will now be looking for restaurant and pub recommendations!

Sherrigoleen,

I understand that you are traveling with a big group and everyone has a say. This apt that has been booked is really NOT in an area I would choose. In some ways, it's even worse than being in the Raval. Your original choice of carrer Nou de la Rambla is at least a wide and straight street, well-lit, with bars and businesses. You can see clearly who's in front and in back of you.

I googled APBCN Center and found it on Booking.com. First, the address is not correct. It should be carrer d'En Serra 8. This is mentioned in a review by Jerome, a French-speaking visitor on 20 Feb, 2014:

" Nous avons loué l'appartement de la rue d'En Serra, au deuxième étage. Sa situation géographique est parfaite, c'est-à-dire au centre du quartier gothique, mais dans une ruelle très calme."

Unlike some other guests, he did not mind the narrow and dark alley. Here's an older Streetview picture of it. I'm sure it's been fixed up but the narrowness and darkness is still the same.

To access the apt from Las Ramblas, you might take the Liceu metro station and walk down Las Ramblas a bit, then turn left on Escudellers and past Plaça George Orwell (nicknamed Plaça Tripi or Acid Square). This square used to be a well-known hangout for druggies... I guess it's better these days. If not the Liceu metro station, then you would use the Drassanes station which is further down Las Ramblas and not exactly a pretty sight either. On this forum, we often mention that the lower part of Las Ramblas is NOT very nice, especially at night.

On the bright side, many of the reviews were positive and only a few people mentioned negative aspects of their experience. As long as you are well-informed, you can prepare yourself for any surprises.
