"Must sees/do's" (sic) depend very much on your personal interests. Can you tell us a bit about what you like and /or expect to see or do?

We went twice last year. A tour of the Camp Nou is definitely worth it. We also enjoyed bimbling around Montjuic, some great views of the city and the Olympic Stadium and park are beautiful.

MUST SEE VISITS

Firstly, have a taste of some of the most iconic architectural landmarks: infocatalonia.eu/w/…

Notice I've grouped them in 'logical visits' so to speak -one being close to the other or if not, ie. 1) then on the way to:

1) PARK GÜELL (infocatalonia.eu/w/…) + GAUDI MUSEUM in Park Güell (infocatalonia.eu/w/…) + GAUDÍ EXPERIENCE also by Park Güell (infocatalonia.eu/w/…) + SAGRADA FAMÍLIA (infocatalonia.eu/w/…) + HOSPITAL DE SANT PAU (http://www.visitsantpau.com/en/)

2) CASA BATLLÓ (infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/05/casa-batllo/) + CASA MILA (aka LA PEDRERA)(infocatalonia.eu/w/…)

3) PALAU GÜELL -not close to Park Güell!- (infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/08/palau-guell/)

4) TORRE BELLESGUARD (infocatalonia.eu/w/…)

These are only a few examples of modernist landmarks in the city, if anything probably the most famous and visited, but there are more... but again, you wouldn't have the time anyway :(

Do pre-book online wherever you can (see their websites) in order to avoid queueing -thus wasting precious time!- especially if you're visiting in summer. Barcelona gets nearly 10 million visitors each year, might not sound a lot... but the city has 1.8 million inhabitants (nearly 3.9 with the metropolitan area) so you grasp the idea, don't you? ;)

Other MUST see:

5) NOU CAMP (infocatalonia.eu/w/…) -specially if you are a football lover

6) BARRI GÒTIC: the Gothic Quarter, birthplace of the city, 2000 years of history there so too much to put in a couple of lines, sorry!

7) EL BORN (www.infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/01/el-born/) + BORN CULTURAL CENTRE (infocatalonia.eu/w/…) + PICASSO MUSEUM (http://www.museupicasso.bcn.cat/)

8) LA RAMBLA (www.infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/08/la-rambla/) + LA BOQUERIA (infocatalonia.eu/w/…) -actually these can be combined with 6) 7) and 3) because they're all in the same area.

9) MONTJUÏC (infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/05/areas-montjuic/), also too many landmarks here to put in two lines. Have a look here for such a list: barcelonaturisme.com/Parc-de-Montjuic/_xMCfM…

10) BARCELONETA and waterfront (infocatalonia.eu/w/…)

Note it's quite hard to pick landmarks/attractions for such a short list, I'm leaving so much out that I'd prefer if you let us know what are your interests so maybe a more tailorised list can be made.

Some other ideas:

Lastly, if you're fed up of the city and need a day escapade to a nearer smaller city or town:

GIRONA : http://www.infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/11/30/ben/

FIGUERES : infocatalonia.eu/w/… -note this and Girona are very close

SITGES : infocatalonia.eu/w/…

MONTSERRAT : www.infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/11/30/montserrat/

TARRAGONA : infocatalonia.eu/w/…

VIC : http://www.infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/17/vic/

BESALÚ: www.infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/11/30/besalu/

ROSES: www.infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/15/roses/

TOSSA DE MAR: infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/15/tossa-de-mar/

...

Thank you everyone for all your helpful replays - can't wait now! What area is best for dining out at night, nothing mega expensive but budget isn't an issue, somewhere with a good atmosphere n fab food not too far away from The W hotel, ie taxi ride away fine.
