Hotwire hotels

Hi,

I want to book a hotel in Barcelona on Hotwire - the choice is between Forum - Poblenou - Beachfront area or Montjuic - Fira de Barcelona - Plaza España .

We are only going for 5 days at the end of August , which area will be better - close to attractions and the beach?

Thanks

I'm afraid only you know which area will be better for you - what do you want to do or see in Barcelona? In fact, there's an excellent public transport system, and you can get between most areas quickly and easily. The exception to this might be Montjuic, depending on where the hotel is.

From Placa España it's about 10 mins, from Forum about 20 mins to the centre of town by metro. Placa España has quite a few attractions nearby (eg.Magic Fountain, Poble Espanyol, MNAC). For a first-time visitor with limited time I'd probably recommend the former.

Thanks. Are there any good public beaches near Poblenou? Is there a metro in Montjuic as the area includes Montjuic - Fira de Barcelona - Plaza España .?

Thanks, I realise this. Also L'Eixample - Passeig de Gràcia area - is there a metro nearby? How far is to the centre? Thanks again

As statkin said, these are huge areas relative to the size of the centre. There are many metro stations within Eixample, as well as numerous bus routes. The bottom of Passeig de Gratia is at Place Catalunya, regarded as the centre of the city.

All beaches are public, and the best beaches in town (IMHO) are by Poblenou district. On the other hand, Poblenou is one of the largest districts in town, so if your hotel is in the "wrong" side of it, you will be quite far away from the seaside and it may be not convenient for sightseeing.

l'Eixample is another of the largest districts, it actually contains the very city centre. But you may still be in Eixample and be quite far away from anything of interest.

Public transport is excellent all over the city, and you are rarely far away than 10 minutes walking from a metro stop. A different issue is how much time you are willing to spend in transport and how convenient a particular line/stop may be from a tourist point of view.

All in all, this generic descriptions of areas mean nothing. Plus, some areas are not just big but quite diverse. So, you may end staying central but in a seedy street, or more far away in a much better location.
