Buying famous red wine in Barcelona

Hi, I am arriving to the port of Barcelona next week. Anyone know where I can buy a bottle of famous red wine nearby?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by a 'famous red wine' (I prefer my wines to taste well, not to be famous). In any case, one of my favourite wine shops in Barcelona is Vila Viniteca in El Born. You can check their catalogue on their website: http://www.vilaviniteca.es/en/home.

If you just want to buy an overpriced bottle with a well known name, and you don't care about advice or discovering something new, you can also try the 'Club del Gourmet' on the lowest floor of the El Corte Ingles department store.

tkpricky:

Go to any supermarket. The best red wines come from Ribera del Duero and the Rioja region.

What are best is a mater of taste. The wine advocate Robert Parker suggests the following are the best in Spain.

Here is a list of locations to purchase wine in the city of Barcelona.

I agree that it is a matter of taste. I am quite happy to drink a good Rioja or Ribera del Duero, but I thought the best red wines came from the Vega Sicilia area.

The OP doesn't ask for the best, he asks for a 'famous' wine. I'm not sure any of the Spanish wines qualify for that, I'm more thinking a well known Bordeaux. But it would be good if the OP could clarify that...

Hi all,

Thanks for your comment. Actually, I just got a couple of hour to be stayed in Barcelona after leaving the port and I have to grab a bottle of wine before leaving. My personal preference will be Pingus, El Pison, Vega sicilia Unico. I've already got the bottle of Numanthia Termanthia Toro.

Therefore, I would like to have a nearest place to shop :)

l'ermita by alvaro palacios, DO priorat, is quite famous and expensive, +1000 euros x bottle.

there are other wines from there, like some by Rene Barbier, that are well rated in Parkers marketing list.

I don't think the average supermarket will stock those... :-)

At the port itself there are no wine shops. But as you can see in the list provided by Casa_Santo_Estevo there are specialised shops all over town.

Do you already know what you'll be doing during the few hours you have here? We can then help you to find a shop close by the place were you'll be going. And how are you leaving? By train? From the airport?

... I wonder, since you're visiting Barcelona, which is in the area of Catalonia, why not getting a Catalan wine instead?: http://www.worldsofflavorspain.com/node/384

My advice is to pop into a specialized wine shop and seek advice from the shopkeeper. As @kkbcn mentions, Vila Viniteca is a good choice: http://www.vilaviniteca.es/en/home and you can reach it from the port by taking the port bus to Columbus statue and walking from there: http://bit.ly/1m9pWAB

Stay local, drink local.

Some very good wines from Priorat and Montsant. Also more local wines from Penedes and Terra Alta.

I'll be in Priorat, Montsant and Terra Alta country in a few months. Mind i won't be spending anything like what l'emita costs (in total never mind a bottle).
