A few questions

Hello!

We are a couple (late 20s) visiting Barcelona at the end of August staying in the LE'ixample area (sorry if I've spelt that wrong!)

Firstly, would you recommend us hiring a moped/ scooter type thing to travel around - we have never driven outside the uk! Are the roads pretty easy to get used to?

Also, can anyone recommend any more 'adventurous' activities apart from the usual touristy stuff - maybe scuba diving/ quad biking etc etc?

Thanks in advance :)

L'Eixample :-)

I would never tell a visitor that it's OK to rent a scooter here, simply because it's relatively dangerous to drive around in this city. (OK, I might make an expection for Romans for instance... :-)

And for the adventurous stuff you probably have to go somewhere outside Barcelona (this is a city after all), but I'll let others fill in the details.

Ah nearly haha.

Yes I'm not too keen on the idea but we have seen great reviews on here with people saying it really made their holiday, so thought we would consider it.

Re the activities we don't mind a bit of traveling to get there!

Hi HettyBee!, hi kbbcn!...

As kbbcn mentions, driving scooters in Barcelona can be dangerous (I know, I do drive one!). The metropolitan area has 230,000 (yeah, two hundred thousand!) registered motorcycles and scooters and driving is such dense traffic can be unnerving -to say the least!. I wouldn't recommend it for a first timer, moreover taking into account and added hurdle for you: we drive on the 'right' side of the road, hahaha! :))

Having said that, if you want a 'difference' experience maybe you could check to do a city tour on:

As per adventurous activities, here have some ideas:

Enric thank you very much for the detailed response.

I think we will take the advice regarding the scooter - don't want any mishaps before the holiday has really begun!
