Train travel in Catalonia

We are staying in Sitges for 12 days in September and want to do some travelling in Catalonia by train as well as doing the beaches/bars/clubs/restaurants of Sitges.

I understand that a Tarjeta Dorada discount pass for over 60s may be available. Does anyone know if this is available to non Spanish residents?

We are hoping to get to Girona ,Figueres and maybe Lleida by fast train ("Avant") via Barcelona - can you buy through return tickets at Sitges station?

For the tickets: yes, you can buy them all at the station. But if you already know your travel dates you can save a lot of money by buying them in advance on-line. Both Avant and AVE (high-speed) trains have a flexible pricing system like the airlines, i.e. the longer you wait the more expensive they get.

Important to know: if you buy a long distance (AVE, Avant etc.) ticket from/to Barcelona, you’ll get a code that allows you to travel for free on the Rodalies commuter trains to/from Sitges for free. (You’ll have to use the code on the ticket machines at the station.) So to travel to Girona for instance, buy the Barcelona – Girona Avant or AVE ticket and you’ll travel for free between Sitges and Barcelona. The page explaining this on Renfe's site is not translated, but maybe you can run it through Google:

....and if you do need the Tarjeta Dorada it is certainly available to ANYONE over 60 with proof of age, i.e. in your case passport.
