Christmas day in Santiago de Compostela

I am doing a Spain tour (tripadvisor.in/ShowTopic-g187427-i42-k768956…) in December, and would like to visit Santiago de Compostela. The only possible date seems to be on Christmas - if I come there in the morning flight, would I be able to visit the Cathedral? Will it be open for visiting on that day?

I searched the forum and internet, but couldnt get this information - so Many thanks to whoever can provide this information.

1. Re: Christmas day in Santiago de Compostela

in your plans I do not see how you intend on fitting in Santiago de Compostela.

What the other poster has failed to give you information on is that everything closes on Christmas day. In fact most things start to close early on the 24th of Dec. Christmas day is a family day.

In Santiago the only location open is the Cathedral. http://www.catedraldesantiago.es/es/horarios

Are you certain you can get a flight for the 25th Dec?

the other bit of information you was not informed about in your other thread is that this Vegetarianism is not so wildly understood. However to help you pick some restaurants here is a website which list those specialising in Vegetarian meals. http://www.happycow.net/europe/spain/

Sometimes in Spain when you ask for vegetables you may have a chance of still finding meat in the meal.

Hello Casa_Santo_Estevo,

Many thanks for the Information you provided.

I want to skip the 'natural park' idea I had on the christmas day, and fly into Santiago instead.

If the Cathedral is indeed open, then I think then it is worth a one day visit. Once confirmed I will book the tickets immediately - they seem to be available as of now.

Thanks for the vegetarian information as well - we are very particular about this!

The website you provided is in Spanish - is there a English version of it? Google translate doesnt seem to do a good job.

No information in English: and you should be warned that English is not commonly spoken here so sometimes you may have some difficulties with communications.
