Getting Married in Gibraltar - Heeellllppppp!!!

Hi,

we are getting married in Gibraltar in June 2013. At the minute we have only booked the wedding date and our flights. We are thinking of either the botanical gardens or the mons calpe. Can anyone give any advice including the difference in price for both? How expensive is it to rent the circular room in the Mons Calpe for the reception?

We are expecting about 30 people to travel with us and are staying for around a week as we are going to treat it as a holiday as are our guests. Should we stay in Gibraltar the full week or stay somewhere else and only come into Gibraltar for a day or two? At the minute we are likely to stay in Gibraltar for the week. Does any one have any recommendations with regards to hotels or villas? Some people want to stay in hotels whilst others are thinking it would be cheaper to stay in villas. If anyone can think of things to do as a group such as a local waterpark/recommended excursion please let us know. Sorry for all the questions, its just we have so much to get through and any help/advice/contacts would be greatly appreciated. Hopefull we get lots of replies!!!

Thanks in advance

No idea about prices but both venues ar very nice. The Botanical gardens are very pretty and you can walk from/to town. The Mons Calpe is a restaurant at the top of the Rock, you' have to go up in the cable car or in a taxi, spectacular views.

No villas to rent in Gib, oly apartments or hotels. You could do 2/3 nights in Gib and then head into Spain, up the Costa del Sol or inland

1. Special Licence for Marriage - £67.50

2. (b) Ceremony and registration (at a venue outside the Registry Office) on weekdays - £140.00

2. (c) Ceremony and registration (at a venue outside the Registry Office) on weekends and on weekdays after working hours - £240.00

It will be an extra £200/£250 to hire the venue at the botanical gardens, depending on the day and time. Unsure of the cost of Mons Calpe.

You have plenty of choices as to where to stay, you are probably best having a look through the options on this very site, depending on what you are specifically looking for. I should point out that availability in June will be very low, so you should book early. Also note that hotel prices in Gibraltar during summer are very high.

Hello,

Self catering apartments seem a good budget option. There are nice ones with sea views out there.

For excursions, there is very little on the net, try these guys.

I wouldn't go wasting your money on wedding planners, with the internet and cheap telephone calls, its easy to arrange everything in advance smoothly.

If you email the registry office, they will explain the procedure, as well as confirming extra costs for getting married at Alameida/top of rock etc. All you have to make sure is that you arrive in Gibraltar a couple of days before the ceremony to sort out the paper work,

For excursions, you have plenty of choices, depending on how far you want to travel. Bahia Park at Algeciras is a large and popular water park, only 30 minutes away from Gibraltar.

An hour or so up the coast in the Fuengirola area, there is an excellent zoo (Fuengirola Biopark), Selwo Safari, Tivoli World (theme park), Sea world and lots more.

A short train ride away from Gibraltar is Ronda, a lovely town in the mountains that everyone will love.

Also, you can, of course, get the ferry to Morocco or Ceuta (1 hour)

Excellent surfing/kite surfing etc in Tarifa.

Wine tasting in Sevilla.

We were in Gibraltar for 5 days attending a wedding at the Botanic Gardens, stayed at the Rock Hotel, amazing place.

We didn't get to see and do all we wanted so may go back this year :)

I would say that the Botanic Gardens is a far better choice, the top of the rock is quite soulless.

Congratulations!!

We got married and had our reception in the Mons Calpe Suite in September 2011. It was fabulous!!! We we're married at 3 and had the venue from 3pm until 11pm It cost £100 per hour whilst the cable car station was open and £200 per hour after that (they have to keep several employees to run the cable car back down for you). I can thoroughly recommend it.

If you need any help with regard to photographers/flowers etc I can forward you details of who we used. Likewise, if you would like me to send you any photos to show you the venue just ask!!

What did you think of the food at the mons suite? We are having our wedding there and find the per head price very expensive. Is it worth it?

Thanks
