Wedding in Gibraltar

Am getting married at the Botanical Gardens in Gibraltar in September. We are travelling from Benalmadena, Spain that morning.

Any advice please on transport. Can we travel all the way on coach or do we have to park up at the Coach park.

Recommendations on taxi/mini bus hire in Gibraltar.

Help please am starting to tear my hair out !!!!

If you are taking a public bus (long distance coach) in Spain, it will be to La Linea, then you would walk the short distance to the border to crossing on foot. Transport options would then be walk/bus/taxi etc in Gibraltar, see below.

If it is an organised coach trip to Gibraltar (which is what it sounds like from what you have written) then the coach will cross the border and proceed directly to the coach park.

Currently the coach park has been relocated to a temporary site close to John Mackintosh Square, which is itself off the middle of Main Street. This would be within ok walking distance of the Gardens, but you might prefer a taxi.

The bigger question is where the coach terminal will be come September, by that time it COULD be moved to a new location next to the airport terminal (which is also right next to the border crossing).

Within Gibraltar, all taxis are part of the Gibraltar Taxi Association and licensed by the government. There are no minicabs etc. There are taxi ranks at various points, including the border/airport, and also including near where the coach terminal currently is.

The thing to keep in mind is that taxi drivers make a lot of money as licensed tour guides doing rock tours by taxi for tourists. Accordingly, plenty of them will be trying to sell this, and when there are multiple cruise ships in port, taxi supply can be very limited.

The public bus service is devided between two companies, one operates the route between the border/airport and a couple of points in town, the other is government owned and operates all the other routes. While there is a bus stop right next to the temporary coach park, I don't think public busses will be of much benefit to you for the hassle.

The final option, depending upon party size, would be to hire a small coach/bus to transport your party. The good news is that the coach terminal would probably be a good place to be picked up form. I'm not sure if you will find good pricing, there is no real minibus industry that you might find elsewhere - limited local need for it.

You could try Bland Travel, Calypso Tours (MH Bland Group) - note these are different companies despite same family name 'Bland' in them, 'Persian Rose' etc.

Details from www.gibyellow.gi

Where are you staying? Do you plan to incorporate a rock tour for your guests/party etc? That could obviously affect coach economics etc.

One thing I forgot to clarify - most taxis in Gibraltar are minivans. They will seat 6 at least. Some will easily go to nine.

Thank you so much for the info. Will try the Calypso Tours people. Do you know am I right in thinking that a coach carrying 36 people from Spain will only go as far as the Coach Park and then we would have to get alternative transport (if needed) to the Gardens

If this is your own private hired coach in Spain, then they should be able to drop you wherever you want (subject to traffic restrictions on parking etc, ability of the coach to fit through the road system and spanish driver knowledge!).

If this is a normal organised coach trip to Gibraltar it will only go to the Coach Park.
