Where would you go if you only have 1 full day in Madrid?
Well, if you only have one day I suggest you join one of the tours in order to save time. I strongly believe that it is a good way to visit the most of the city. As well, another good option would be the double decker bus
Depends if you're more interested in museums or looking around the actual city.
I would probably go for a circular walking route, from Sol, towards Plaza Mayor, past the San Miguel market, on towards the cathedral and palace, then back past Templo de Debod, Plaza Espana, and then Gran Via. Maybe even a look around Retiro park if there's time at the end of all that :)
I agree. It all depends on your interests.
If you are an art lover, then Prado is an absolute must. The best collection of Spanish art in the world is there. Thyssen is excellent as well. You will enjoy Reina Sophia if you love modern art.
If you like parks, then you will love your visit to the Royal Botanical Garden which is right next to Prado. As well as beautiful El Retiro park as well.
And just walk the streets and avenues of Madrid to get a feel of this gorgeous city... there are not too many cities in the world as magnificent as Madrid.
Re #3 "Tapas with friends (..)."
Does that mean there is no point in going somewhere for tapas if one has no friends in tow? If the OP happens to be there with friends (and I see no reason to assume that from the Q) they will presumably be doing EVERYTHING they do during the day "with friends". And if not - how are they supposed to import some when they want to go for tapas...?!
Take the hoho bus and come back to any place you are interested in.
Is the hoho bus worth it? We are taking a walking tour on our first day, wondering if we should do the hoho bus too.
Thanks Revilgo, we will be in Madrid for three full days...should we purchase the Madrid tourist travel transit pass in advance? Will be taking taxi from/to airport.
