Restaurant in La Latina

Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in the vicinity of Calle de los Estudios and Calle de Toledo in La Latina District for a Saturday afternoon lunch.

We would like to book somewhere mid-priced for a nice leisurely lunch. We have one vegetarian amongst us.

Many thanks.

This is a vegetarian restaurant on Ventura de la Vega. It's technically not in La Latina...I believe it's in Huertas..but it's on a restaurant row just off Carrera de San Jeronimo. The name of the place is: Artemisa and its website is:

www.restauranteartemisa.com/HTML/index.html

You can google it and read reviews or the ones on the Trip Advisor give it decent reviews.

¡Buen provecho!

Hi thanks.

Not really interested in purely vegetarian restaurants. Just wanted a good "authentic" local Madrid restaurant, which perhaps had options for vegetarians, but if not just a good local "authentic" restaurant. the vegetarian will have to compromise!

La Puebla is a good "authentic" restaurant with reasonable prices. It's so authentic that they do not have an menu in English to offer. I happen to believe that omission is intentional. You want to eat here, better know enough Spanish to handle it. They do have vegetarian dishes. sauteed green beans, for example, but often these dishes are sauteed in olive oil and bacon. If the vegetarian is a purist, that may be difficult. Prices around

12 euros including bread (no butter), beer, water or wine, 2 courses plus dessert. Doesn't include coffee, tea.

Another popular vegetarian dish is: Tortilla española which is potato omelet. No meat of any kind in this dish. Any place would have this as a first or second course. It's a very typical evening (10-11 pm) meal in Spain.

This dish is served as a tapa in almost every bar. Room-temperature or hot is special-ordered

By the way, La Puebla is on the same street as Artemisa...Ventura de la Vega. Probably five doors from another.

My recommendation -- in that vecinity-- is Restaurante Cantalejo on Calle Toledo corner to Cava Alta. Spanish cooking. Vegs can eat tortilla de patata, pimientos de Padrón, patatas bravas.
