I'd say yes, especially for beginners. The piste is very short, but thats not a problem for beginners anyway. They hire all the gear including clothes - important coz unlike skiing in the pyrenees its quite cold !

For beginners it is great, as there are two slopes, one very short and easy for the first contact and a longer one for more advanced skiers. Prices are not too expensive (similar to those of the outside ski resorts) and you can rent all the equipment there.

From Madrid, there are direct buses departing from Príncipe Pío station (subway lines 6, 10 and R). The bus line that covers that route is nr. 534, with services every hour from 7 am to 10 pm daily. One way ticket costs € 3. From calle Carretas to Príncipe Pío, you can walk to Ópera and then take subway line R.

Once at Xanadú, appart from skiing, there are shops, restaurants, cinema, bowling, karts...

Hi FBV,

Thanks for your clear instruction. In fact, I visited the wesbite http://www.madridsnowzone.com/ for more information and figured out that it has Spanish version only. Is it right? So please advise on how we can book for the ticket. Instrument will cost extra fee apart from 22 Euros/ 1 pax/ 1 hour ?..We need to look over on the total budget as we will be backpacking to Madrid in early June and we are working on the budget planning...so highly appreciate with your helpful advice.

Thanks a lot..

Quite surprisingly, it seems that the website is only in Spanish and there is no English version, yes.

According to the website, the current published fares are € 22 for 1 hour; € 30 for 4 hours and € 36 for the whole day. This price includes just the access.

If you need to rent the equipment (skis, boots and poles), the fares will be € 40 for 1 hour; € 48 for 4 hours and € 54 for a day. This price includes both the access and the equipment.

The easiest way to buy tickets are directly at the ticket offices once there. No need to book in advance. If possible, avoid major holidays, but usually it doesn't get too crowded.

As you are coming in winter, another option is to go to one of the few (and not very large - the good ones are at the Pyrenees or Sierra Nevada, at 400-500 km. of Madrid) ski resorts of Madrid region and adjacent provinces (Valdesqui, La Pinilla or Navacerrada), especially during labour days. They should be open by this time of the year, but check it before getting there, as the current year is being very warm and dry, and right now they are closed.

Have a great trip!

Thank you so much for your informative notes.

It sounds so interesting that we, travelers from an Asian country visiting Madrid in summer, would be able to try this kind of sport in this time of year. Indeed we are very excited In fact, I wrote an email to a significant recipient from the company but have not received any feedback so far. So the advice from a native person like you is really indispensable for us.!!

Thank you again and wish you happy holidays.
