Behind the convent of the Carboneras, nex to the Plaza de la Villa, is a shop where you can find sweets and jams from many convents around Spain.

Hilldale:

When I first visited Malaga many years ago, my wife brought me to a nunnery (now closed) to buy the sweets. The turntable and not seeing the nun were a great novelty to me. The sweets were also very good.

I have tried to help the nuns because I think this tradition should not be lost. So last year or the previous year, I tried to make a list of all the convents where you could still buy the sweets. I called by phone all the convents that I have on my top question list about convent sweets and posted them in their appropriate city forums. Sadly many convents have closed for lack of nuns.

Thank you for those efforts Benny. I think more people are buying the sweets because of your information. In general, the Destination Experts on TA are invaluable. I've learned so much.

" have tried to help the nuns because I think this tradition should not be lost."

Lost? Unless there are new nuns joing the convents to stay behind wall and never meet anyone, I think I know where this is going to end. This seems backward to me as I do not think they should be closed off like this.

But this is Spain and they can do what they wish to keeps going or it stops.

"But this is Spain and they can do what they wish to keeps going or it stops."

The cloistering of nuns is a catholic tradition, not a Spanish one.
