Some guidance if possible

Hi there. Heading to madrid tommorow with my girlfriend staying at the NH Princepe De Vergara. Just wondering what is the best way from the airport.

Also any tips for where to take her and treat her maybe a restaraunt or some shopping in the local area hopefully the hotel isnt to far out.

Thanks for the help

Well, you're in the right neighborhood for shopping that's for sure! Salamanca is the high end shopping area of Madrid. As for food, I'd say a classic meal at Botín is a nice way to go. I also like the food at Fusíon as well which is near the Plaza Santa Ana. These two places are not in Salamanca, but they're not that far either. Botín is very famous.

As for getting to that area from the airport, in most cases you have a couple choices, but if you want to go the easiest route, take a cab. It will run around 20-30€ and be fairly pain free (unless there is traffic). The more do-it-yourself way is to take public transportation. See the links to the right.

Some tapas near the NH Príncipe de Vergara:

Cozy tapas restaurant: Handicap on Calle General Oráa 56. Try the "pincho kungfu".

Cervecería Vergara 78, tapas bar on Calle Príncipe de Vergara 78. Try the croquetas.

Shopping (or windowshopping) at Salamanca neighborhood:

If you both enjoy seafood I suggest La Trainera, Calle Lagasca 60 or for tapas try Estay on Calle Hermosilla. There are lots of wonderful restaurants to try in this area. Take a look at 'Maribel's dining guide' for Madrid which will provide you with some inspiration.
